When it comes to music festivals, the earlier in the day the artist is scheduled for, the less draw they are expected to pull. Josiah and the Bonnevilles (Bonnevilles referring to his fans, rather than his backing band) were tasked with playing the 2:05 pm slot on the ‘Right Field’ stage at the Extra Innings Festival this past weekend.
A fresh act to the ears of many, the scheduling of Josiah that early in the day is understandable. But during Saturday’s set, he made it apparent he will quickly work his way up the bill.
A 2-3,000 crowd enjoyed the crystal clear desert skies as the Appalachian singer-songwriter took his place on stage. Josiah expressed humility and gratitude, consistently praising all in attendance and transmitting positivity through Tempe Beach Park.
Near the start of the set, Josiah struggled to tune his guitar and acknowledged it was a skill he's still improving upon. Where many acts would be embarrassed to appear inexperienced, Josiah handled the situation in a manner that came across as authentic and relatable.

Several songs into the set, Josiah gave his rendition of the fan-favourite Tyler Childers song ‘Jersey Giant.’ Josiah used the track to showcase his first-rate skills, ripping the harmonica while strumming his guitar in an impressive feat of multitasking.
Soon after, the Tennessee native played ‘Ghost,’ a Justin Bieber cover from his 2023 LP ‘Country Covers.’ Before beginning the song, Josiah shared that he had lost his mother to cancer and would be singing the last chorus away from the microphone for her. The moment sent shivers down spines and earned an empathetic ovation.
Josiah Leming projects an energy that rallies a crowd to engage with his music and root for him. Extra Innings Festival was a stepping stone in a lengthy journey ahead of Josiah this year, as he continues to make a name for himself in the Americana scene.
