Jessie Murph's next chapter is quickly approaching, with the genre-blending prodigy continuing to tease a brand new track, ‘Gucci Mane’, ahead of her sophomore studio album.
The ‘Someone in This Room’ hitmaker has now confirmed ’Gucci Mane’, which samples the name-checked rapper's 2009 anthem, ‘Lemonade’, will be dropping on Friday, April 4th.
Amidst a flurry of clips of the track, which finds Jessie Murph stepping into the shoes of a jaded protagonist who is struggling to fill the sense of emptiness she feels deep within, the ‘Sip’ crooner revealed ’Gucci Mane’ is ‘Track One’ from her new album.
The project serves as the eagerly anticipated follow-up to 2024's That Ain't No Man, That's The Devil, which cemented Murph as one of the most exciting new voices in country music. Last week, Murph received her first ACM nod for New Female Artist of the Year.
In a new set of visuals, presumably taken from the ‘Gucci Mane’ music video, Jessie Murph plays the part of a dancer being paid to entertain a business-man, with Murph explaining in the voiceover, “There's a hole in my soul about the size of Alabama, and I've found that no money and no man makes it better. I've been flirting with the idea of heroin, I hear it makes you warm, but your body will rot from right under you and you die ugly. I don't wanna die ugly. Last night I danced with a man old enough to be my daddy, and I swear it’s the safest I ever felt”.
The ‘Gucci Mane’ protagonist concludes by bluntly admitting, “This morning I woke up and threw my porcelain plates at the wall. Now, I'm eating my pasta off a cold paper towel”.
Then across the uptempo ‘Lemonade’ instrumental, Jessie Murph drawls, “I'm from Alabama / I'm bout 4’11 / I got a shitty father / And I'd like to go to Heaven / Internally, I'm scrappy / But I'm afraid to fight / I prefer to keep my hoops in / So I stay in at night”.
Murph goes on, “They tell me not to falter / To tell ’em who I am / But I'm not fucking sure / I know I love shitty men / They normally contribute to the state that I'm in / This place that I'm in / This fucking state that I'm in / And I get to feeling guilty / And I think about my mom / I'm the first one in my family to see / A million bucks”.
Given the themes that pervaded Jessie Murph's much-loved November release, ‘Sip’, it seems the fast-emerging artist's forthcoming record could be a concept album revolving around the character from ‘Gucci Mane’. With Murph's songwriting often delving into visceral, gritty areas that other artists steer clear from, we reckon a full-blown concept project from the ‘High Road’ chart-topper would be incredible.
We're hoping we'll be getting some more details about Jessie Murph's sophomore album on Friday, April 4th, when ‘Gucci Mane’ drops at long last, with this much-loved track seemingly kicking off the rollout for the keenly awaited new project.

“I'm from Alabama
I'm bout 4’11
I got a shitty father
And I'd like to go to Heaven
Internally, I'm scrappy
But I'm afraid to fight
I prefer to keep my hoops in
So I stay in at night
-
They tell me not to falter
To tell ’em who I am
But I'm not fucking sure
I know I love shitty men
They normally contribute to the state that I'm in
This place that I'm in
This fucking state that I'm in
-
And I get to feeling guilty
And I think about my mom
I'm the first one in my family to see
A million bucks”
