It almost felt like deja vu as the curtains closed on the 2024 CMT Music Awards as Jelly Roll once again walked away as a three-time winner.
After already nabbing Male Video of the Year and CMT Performance of the Year earlier in the evening, the fast-rising country superstar also emerged victorious as the last and biggest category of the night – the coveted Video of the Year – was unveiled.
As with his two previous wins on Sunday night, the Video of the Year honor was thanks to his sophomore single, 'Need A Favor', which ruled the radio dials throughout 2023, and whose video was solidly placed across CMT all year, too.
Shouting out his fellow nominees, Jelly Roll noted: "Cody Johnson, I'm not gonna tell you anything up here I wouldn't tell you on the phone, but I love you brother. You're my favorite cowboy forever and ever and ever. Kelsea Ballerini, you know what I think of you, too. You go girl!"
Shelling out thanks to his manager, publicist, record label and country radio, he added: "[Thank you to] my beautiful wife, Miss Bunnie DeFord. I am blessed to have you as a best friend. I am blessed to have you as a partner. You find beauty in broken things and I love you."
The biggest trophy of the night, the full nominees for Video of the Year read like the who's who of country music's finest. Included in the first round of hopefuls were Brandy Clark & Brandi Carlile's 'Dear Insecurity', Brothers Osborne's 'Nobody’s Nobody', Darius Rucker's 'Fires Don’t Start Themselves', Jason Aldean's 'Let Your Boys Be Country', Jordan Davis' 'Next Thing You Know', Kacey Musgraves' 'Deeper Well', Mickey Guyton & Kane Brown's 'Nothing Compares To You', Parmalee's 'Gonna Love You', Tyler Childers' 'In Your Love' and Zach Bryan's 'Nine Ball'.
That list was whittled down to the top six just days before awards' night with Ashley McBryde's 'Light On In The Kitchen', Cody Johnson's 'The Painter', HARDY's 'Truck Bed', Kelsea Ballerini's 'If You Go Down (I’m Goin’ Down Too)' and Lainey Wilson's 'Watermelon Moonshine' all vying for the evening's top honor, which was ultimately won out by Jelly Roll.
During the star-studded evening, the 2024 CMT Awards enjoyed captivating performances from Kelsea Ballerini, who did double duty as the night's sole host, as well as Parker McCollum & Brittney Spencer, Trisha Yearwood, Bailey Zimmerman and more.
