Although there are inevitably backstage rivalries and feuds occasionally spill out into the public eye, generally, it feels like the country world is a relatively genial, good-natured space. Epitomising this is the endearing, heartwarming friendship that two of our favourite artists, Kenny Chesney and Megan Moroney have struck up.
In a new video shared to TikTok, Megan Moroney appears to be wearing a sweatshirt emblazoned with Kenny Chesney's signature No Shoes Nation insignia and what looks to be the blue, collegiate-inspired lettering from Moroney's Am I Okay? era.
Could the duo be about to unveil a merchandise collaboration? Fans have been clamouring for a musical collaboration for months now, but we certainly wouldn't complain if Chesney and Moroney decided to unveil a joint clothing range in the meantime.
The newly uploaded video finds Megan Moroney paying tribute to her first ever release, the sleek, sinuous ‘Wonder’, which was released exactly four years ago. The ‘Tennessee Orange’ singer-songwriter shared in the caption, “what do u mean this song came out 4 years ago”, jokingly christening ‘Wonder’ as “my first born child”.
Of course, it's possible the sweatshirt she's wearing in this clip is simply a custom-made jumper that Kenny Chesney gifted her, or perhaps it's even an official piece of merch, and the blue lettering is not a reference to Megan Moroney's Am I Okay?
We can't make out the full phrase in blue, but it seems to contain the letters “OBD”, which doesn't offer us much. Nonetheless, given how in-depth our knowledge of Kenny Chesney's online merch store is (a little too in-depth, according to our bank accounts), we've never seen a sweatshirt of this ilk being made available.
Maybe we're embarking on a wild goose chase. But even if we are, we'd still one day love to see some form of collaboration between Kenny Chesney and Megan Moroney - ideally, both merch- and music-based. Moroney has been spending quite a bit of time writing in the islands of late, which could suggest she has some Tropical Country odes lined up that would align perfectly with Chesney's trademark style.
Megan Moroney and Kenny Chesney's friendship is one of the sweetest stories to arise in country over the past 12 months or so, with the duo linking up on a number of occasions.
During Kenny Chesney's 2024 Sun Goes Down stadium tour, Megan Moroney would regularly emerge during Chesney's headline set to perform the hilarious yet infectious ‘She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy’, with Moroney even pranking the ‘There Goes My Life’ hitmaker during their triple-header at Foxborough's Gillette Stadium.
Megan Moroney walked out dressed in Kenny Chesney's clothes, with Chesney then inviting Moroney to perform her current single, ’Am I Okay?’ in front of the packed-out crowd.
Since then, each artist has gushed about the other in various interviews and socials posts, with Megan Moroney even serenading her followers with a cover of one of Kenny Chesney's most iconic tracks, ‘Knowing You’, taken from his 2020 record, Here and Now.
There are even rumours that Megan Moroney might be opening for Kenny Chesney on some of his Sphere Las Vegas shows, which are lined up for the latter half of May and June.
Whether they now have a new merchandise range up their sleeve is another question, and we'll have to wait and see whether anything comes to fruition in this regard. Either way, we're hoping we can expect more from these two good buddies in the near future.
