Hozier has surprised fans by taking to his socials to tease a brand new unreleased song, ‘July’, with the Irish hitmaker also excitingly revealing he'll be dropping an EP “soon”.

The new clip arrives just a few days after another unreleased Hozier track, ‘Nobody's Soldier’, appeared online, with fans reporting they heard the ‘Too Sweet’ singer-songwriter performing the new offering during his soundcheck in Bangor, Maine last week.

Hozier is yet to comment on ‘Nobody's Soldier’, but his decision to now share a clip of ‘July’ and to confirm new music is on the way suggests the rollout for his EP is accelerating.

The Billboard Hot 100 chart-topper accompanied the ‘July’ snippet with a video of him walking through a bucolic garden, with Hozier overlaying the text, “Oh hi, I wanted to share this song before the month ended and some photos I took around the time it was written”.

In the caption, Hozier explained that he was keen for fans to hear the aptly titled track before the month ended, as well as unveiling his plans for new music. He shared, “Seemed a shame not to let folks hear this in July. New EP coming soon...Much love”.

The one-minute clip finds Hozier crooning fondly across a staggered, staccato instrumental to his lover, likening the way they bring him warmth and clarity to how the heat of the Summer washes away his lingering Winter blues (“But you arrived like some light in the gloom / Burned off the haze when the year was still new”).

‘July’ features an ethereal falsetto harmony that enhances the atmospheric feel of the track, with the new track carrying a more laid-back, breezy ambience than ‘Nobody's Soldier’.

We're still waiting for an official release date for Hozier's new EP, which will be his first project since March's four-song Unheard project, but we're hoping he'll drop some more details in the coming weeks. It'll be interesting to see whether the upcoming EP serves as another extension of Hozier's acclaimed 2023 Unreal Unearth album, in the same way Unheard did (perhaps ‘Unseen’ could be a fun name for the next instalment?), or whether this will instead usher in a new chapter.
