HARDY’s Wife, Calleigh, Talks About His Songwriting on 'Probably A Podcast': “He Wants People To Listen To The Lyrics”

Calleigh Hardy joined friend Shannon Ford Middleton on her podcast, Probably a Podcast, last week to catch up and talk all things babies, birthing and being married to Michael Hardy.
“You are the best HARDY supporter,” Calleigh told Middleton as the pair talked about her husband’s music and how Middleton fell in love with his live version of ‘God’s Country’.
“HARDY is such a writer,” Middleton said, “he'd probably be like, ‘girl what the f**k is wrong with her?’ but, like, it makes me cry.”
HARDY, who is known for his dual personalities across his music - the country leaning ‘Bottomland’ good ol’ boy and the ‘ROCKSTAR’ metal lover - doesn’t do anything by accident. His writing is some of the most clever, purposeful lyricism that has hit the country scene this century. His pen is behind some huge hits, too, fronted by other major artists like Florida Georgia Line and Ella Langley.
“Are you kidding?” Calleigh laughed as Middleton referenced her emotional response to HARDY’s music, “that is like probably the highest compliment you could pay him because he wants people to listen to the lyrics.”
And with his latest song, HARDY has done just that. He has made people sit up and listen to the lyrics. ‘Man In The Box’ has been the subject of analysis across many media outlets because…well what does it really mean?
It’s a seven-minute, 53-second track that explores HARDY’s musicianship across many genres. It’s a song with chapters, hidden meanings and a damn catchy beat.
And that’s HARDY all over, right? He’s excited by the melody, sure, but the words are where his real magic happens. The tumbling lyrics, the line breaks, the double meanings, the flow, the thought, the purpose with which he chooses every single word. That’s what makes Michael Hardy one of country music’s greatest songwriters. And if ‘Man In The Box’ is just the beginning of the new project, we can’t wait to see what other lyrics he wants us to listen to.
