Country music enjoyed a strong presence during the grand finale of The Masked Singer US last night (Wednesday, May 8th), with 2000's country icon, Gretchen Wilson, winning.
The ‘Redneck Woman’ hitmaker was revealed to be Pearl, a crown-adorned figure that impressed the judges and viewers alike with her striking, soul-stirring vocals.
Gretchen Wilson has been widely embraced as the deserving victor of Season 13, with this triumph marking a stellar comeback from Wilson after a tough period. Wilson has contended with COVID-related health troubles and a broken leg in recent years.
In a discussion with TooFab following her win, Gretchen Wilson has underlined that she intends to hold onto the glittery, confident persona of Pearl when she heads on tour this year.
The ‘Here for the Party’ singer-songwriter has explained, “In the beginning, it was so not comfortable. The head weighed more than I do. But every time I stepped into Pearl’s suit, I became Pearl. She’s always been in me. I was just afraid to let her out”.
Elsewhere in her chat, Wilson endearingly expanded, “That feeling Pearl gave me, the confidence, the glamour, that’s staying with me. She classed up the redneck woman a bit”.
Somewhat ironically, Gretchen Wilson's latest release was ‘Little Miss Runner Up’ back in June 2024. It seems safe to say that track was not prophetic, with Wilson taking the trophy.
Elsewhere during the blockbuster finale, which aired via Fox, another fan-favourite throughout this series, The Mad Scientist Monster, was unveiled as Brian Kelley.
The former Florida Georgia Line chart-topper and ‘See You Next Summer’ crooner made it to the finale, before Brian Kelley was eliminated as the third runner-up.
Taking to Instagram, Kelley has gushed about the experience, “Well that’s it! I’ve been unmasked...My journey as the Mad Scientist Monster was UNREAL. Thanks for the love y’all and thank you @maskedsingerfox for this amazing experience!!!”
After treating fans to two albums in 2024, Tennessee Truth and the entirely self-penned Ed & Mary Margaret's Son, the man affectionately known as BK is now gearing up to release the long-awaited sequel to his beloved debut, Sunshine State Of Mind.
