Kenny Chesney surprised attendees at Grace Potter's packed-out show in Vermont this past weekend, with the two good friends teaming up for a special rendition of ‘You and Tequila’.
The sinuous, Grammy-nominated track originally appeared on Kenny Chesney's acclaimed 2010 album, Hemingway's Whiskey, and ‘You and Tequila’ has gone on to become one of the many stand-outs in the Knoxville native's expansive discography.
A cover of Deana Carter's 2003 song, ‘You and Tequila’ tells the simmering tale of two lovers who know they're toxic for one another, yet keep falling back into each other's arms (“One more night could kill me, baby / One is one too many, one more is never enough”).
The track pivots around Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter's sleek, enchanting harmony, with the two artists showcasing their chemistry on-stage during the latter's recent show in Vermont.
Donning a backwards-turned baseball cap and a plain blue sweater, Kenny joked with the crowd, “Grace Potter still makes me crazy!” after singing the final chorus (“'Cause you and Tequila make me crazy / Run like poison in my blood”).
Although ‘You and Tequila’ remains a fan-favourite for followers of both Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter, it rarely features in either singer-songwriters’ setlists.
This made the live rendition of the lovestruck ballad all the more special on Saturday night (September 16), with the Shelburne audience lapping up every second of the heartfelt duet.
