Today (October 11th), Rod Wave dropped his keenly anticipated new album, Last Lap, which serves as the rapper's follow-up to his widely celebrated 2023 project, Nostalgia.
So far, Last Lap has been garnering generally positive reviews, with the record showcasing the Florida artist's ability to use his melodic trap impulses to accentuate his richly emotional themes. However, there is one aspect of the album that fans have been criticising - namely, the absence of his long-teased Morgan Wallen collaboration.
During an Instagram Live in 2023, Rod Wave shared a snippet of an unreleased track, which fans have speculatively titled ‘Don't Wanna Feel It’. The heartbroken offering inventively samples Morgan Wallen's chart-topping 2018 single, ‘Chasin’ You’.
It's unclear whether the intention is for Morgan Wallen to sing the sampled parts of ‘Chasin’ You’ afresh, in a similar way to how Eminem recruited Jelly Roll for ‘Somebody Save Me‘, or whether Rod Wave simply plans to remix the original recording.
Regardless, the song caused quite the stir when Rod Wave first shared it. Listeners that were hoping he might've included it on Nostalgia were keeping their fingers crossed they'd have better luck with Last Lap. Sadly, though, ‘Don't Wanna Feel It’ is still nowhere to be found, with the rollout plan for the track remaining unclear.
In the meantime, aficionados of both artists have been keeping themselves busy by crafting a plethora of mash-ups between existing Rod Wave and Morgan Wallen songs, with Soundcloud and YouTube overflowing with these fan-made tracks.
Although a link-up between Rod Wave and country megastar Morgan Wallen would've seemed far-fetched a few years ago, Morgan has since dropped a couple of electric trap collaborations with Lil Durk (‘Broadway Girls’ and ‘Stand By Me’), as well as joining forces with Moneybagg Yo for the swaggering ‘WHISKEY WHISKEY’ in June.
Earlier in October, an alleged tracklist for Lil Durk's forthcoming project, Love Songs 4 The Streets 3, was leaked, including a collaboration between Durk, Morgan Wallen and Rod Wave, ‘Come Home’. This left fans feeling more optimistic about hearing Morgan Wallen and Rod Wave team up at long last, but unfortunately, Lil Durk took to his socials soon after the tracklist emerged, dismissing it as fake.
It's been over a year since Rod Wave shared that initial teaser of ’Don't Wanna Feel It’, but it's evident the desire is still there with fans for him to join forces with Morgan Wallen. Hopefully, it won't be too long before we can finally hear a duet featuring both artists - perhaps an official version of ’Don't Wanna Feel It’, or even a brand new track.
