"The song ‘Little Ones’ is a retrospective look at a childhood that moved way too fast, but appreciates growing up and the adventure that comes along with it,” says songwriter Paige Anderson, who, together with fiddler Emilie Rose, makes up Two Runner “I wrote this song after having some vivid flashbacks of simple moments and processing some things from my childhood, and what life was built up to in that moment. This song is for those who yearn for the adventure life has brought since childhood and are growing every day."

With their close harmonies, sad old timey fiddle and a scratchy, delicately strummed acoustic, Two Runner have a sound strongly rooted in American folk music and sing the kind of wistful bluegrassy folk songs that seem to find their way into your soul where they rattle around quietly reminding you what it means to be alive.

Like Philip Larkin looking out at clouds in his poem ‘Sad Steps,’ the song feels like “a reminder of the strength and pain of being young; that it can’t come again, but is for others undiminished somewhere.”

Taken from their forthcoming single, ‘Little Ones’ is the B-Side to ‘Late Dinner’, which will be released as a 7” vinyl on Gar Hole Records on 13th September. Preorder the single here.

We have an exclusive live field recording video of the song premiering exclusively on Holler below.

Coming down from the hills of Northern California, best friends Paige Anderson and Emilie Rose both grew up in a rural mountain town, learning folk music and performance from a young age and going on to share stages with Sierra Ferrell, Watchhouse, Jesse Daniel, Nick Shoulders, Charlie Parr and many more.

After a string of wonderful singles, Two Runner self-released their debut album, Modern Cowboy, in the spring of 2023 and now prepare more music through Gar Hole Records; a label who feel like the country folk equivalent of Factory Records to us here at Holler.

Songwriter Paige Anderson grew up touring in her family bluegrass band, Anderson Family Bluegrass, starting at the age of nine, while Emilie Rose was raised on Celtic fiddle and fiddle camps from the same age. In her early years, she led Celtic trio, The String Sisters, who played together for 10 years in the Sierra Nevada Foothills before going on to study at Berklee College of Music, mentored by the greats such as Bruce Molsky, Natalie Haas, and Darol Anger.

Moving back to California after graduating in 2020, Rose met Anderson and since then the duo has been touring solidly, forging their sound with with clawhammer banjo, vocal harmonies, old time fiddle and flatpicking guitar.
