Ahead of his eagerly anticipated set at Railbird Festival 2024, country prodigy Sam Barber sat down with Holler to discuss how his song on the forthcoming Twisters soundtrack came about.
Barber has cut ‘Tear Us Apart’ for the blockbuster project, which also boasts contributions from some of the biggest names in country music, including Jelly Roll, Luke Combs, Tyler Childers, Shania Twain, Lainey Wilson, Thomas Rhett, Megan Moroney and more.
Although it wasn't clear whether the tracks from the forthcoming project - which will drop on the same day as the film's premiere on July 19th - would simply serve as an accompaniment to the screenplay, or whether they'd be featured in the movie itself.
Judging from Sam Barber's comments to Holler, it seems a number of the songs will be heard during the motion picture, with the fast-emerging artist confirming his track, ‘Tear Us Apart’, will add to the gravitas and drama of one particular scene.
The Missouri singer-songwriter shared, “I was asked originally to do the song...my booking agent had mentioned something about it and I was instantly super excited, because I remember being a kid and watching the original movie a long time ago”.
Barber went on to explain the unique creative process behind ‘Tear Us Apart’, “They ended up sending me ideas of what the song should be about and what the scene would be, so I tried to write exactly what they told me about that part in the movie - which I guess I probably shouldn't tell you! That was a really fun thing to do, it was just off the wall, we wrote it really quickly and recorded it. It was super fun”.
We're hoping ’Tear Us Apart’ will be released ahead of the official Twisters: The Album record's release on July 19th, with Luke Combs’ fiery anthem, ‘Ain't No Love in Oklahoma’, Bailey Zimmerman's brooding track, ‘Hell or High Water’ and Megan Moroney's sinuous offering, ‘Never Left Me’ having dropped in recent weeks. Each song seemingly ties in with the disaster movie's core premise, which finds two thrill-seeking storm chasers hurtling after a particularly violent tornado.
In addition, Sam Barber excitingly confirmed he has something in the works with Avery Anna, with the two rising stars combining for some stellar duets on social media in the past few months. It seems the duo are readying a brand new collaboration, ‘Indigo’.
Barber was chatting to Holler at Railbird Festival 2024, which takes place each year at Lexington, Kentucky's iconic Red Mile venue. This year's line-up featured a dizzying array of big-name acts, such as Noah Kahan, Chris Stapleton, Hozier and more.
