Being in a relationship with a man is almost always a scam. If it's true that you only get what you tolerate, then on her new single Olivia Ellen Lloyd has put up with more than enough and knows she deserves a whole lot better than being an unappreciated bang maid for her hopeless boyfriend. If he's not even going to do his fair share of the washing up then this baby man is getting thrown out with the dishwater.

"Women are sold a dual truth; that we are complete people worthy of pursuing our own dreams and ambitions and also that we must be the center of the home and the helpmeet for any man in our lives," Oliva Ellen Lloyd explains about her latest single, 'Every Good Man.'

"As many of us try to have it both ways, we find ourselves in situations where our partners cannot meet us halfway, cannot see us as complete people (rather than their “missing piece”, that feisty bit of rib they think they’re missing). When we find ourselves in an unequal relationship (as we so often do) it becomes impossible to be both things at once. This realization can be painful but in the face of that pain, there is also an opportunity to embrace oneself fully and totally, even though it means losing a person you love. In sum – Dump him."

Taken from her forthcoming album, Do It Myself, due out in March 2025, 'Every Good Man' is a lovely, sad sounding and beautifully acerbic feminist anthem from one of Americana’s most exciting voices. A wistful country shuffle that blends the languorous charm of Alison Krauss with Emmylou’s self-assuredness as she sticks it to a male chauvinist pig of an ex-lover.

"Behind every good man there's a woman who is tired," she sings as she packs up her old life and moves on. "Keeping the lights on and putting out your fires / and if that is all you wanted / if anyone would do / I hope you find someone as desperate as you."

Do It Myself is the follow up to Loose Cannon from 2021, inspired by the rich sounds of New York City, the peaceful quiet of her small hometown upbringing in Shepherdstown in the West Virginia Hills and everything in between as she pays homage to her Appalachian roots. Her songs have an effortlessly, easy feel to them but they hold hard learnt lessons within.

"Just over three years ago, I released my debut record, Loose Cannon," Olivia Ellen Lloyd told Holler. "It was a loose collection of songs that I had written over the span of my twenties and late teens, written mostly for myself and with no intention of ever really sharing them with anyone. Do It Myself was all written within the last three years; a transformative and often painful time as I entered my thirties and began to make shape of my life, just in time to notice how quickly and easily we discard women for being too old, too difficult, too different or too independent."

"I wrote these songs while working out the shape of a life that fits around me after years of trying to fit myself into other ill-suited forms," she says. "This collection of songs is a journey to self-acceptance, a curious exploration of independence and co-dependence and love as it comes and goes from our lives. It’s a repudiation of what a woman in her thirties 'should' be doing with her life as it embraces the notion that we 'get' to do whatever it is that lights us up."
