During an interview with Holler ahead of his packed-out show in London, UK, Jordan Davis revealed he'll be releasing his recently teased song, ‘If Good News Sold’, at the end of February. He's now confirmed it'll be made available on Friday, February 23rd.
The ‘Tucson Too Late’ hitmaker shared an acoustic clip of the wistful, reflective new track across his socials earlier in the week, with Jordan Davis including it as a regular feature in his setlist throughout the European leg of his Damn Good Time world tour.
Endearingly, Jordan explained that he's decided to release ‘If Good News Sold’ after the conclusion of this leg, so his UK and European fans would get to hear the song before anyone else.
The bearded crooner outlined, “We're actually gonna release that one at the end of this month. We've been holding off on it because we wanted to look at it as a way to say thank you to the UK and European fans. Tickets sold like crazy for this tour, it really surprised me. You can get up on-stage and say thank you all you want, but I thought it would be a cool way to hold something back so they get to hear it first”.
Given the fact that Jordan Davis’ European leg concludes on February 22nd in Belfast, it makes sense that he's given ‘If Good News Sold’ a February 23rd release date.
The stripped-back song finds Jordan dipping into the same palette he drew from for two of his biggest hits to date, ‘Buy Dirt’ and his latest No. 1, ‘Next Thing You Know’, both of which carry powerful, perspective-shifting messages about living a simpler life.
‘If Good News Sold’ is underpinned by a similarly evocative theme, with Jordan yearning for a world where positive, uplifting news is given as much space on the front pages as the darker and often harrowing stories that usually end up taking priority.
As Jordan highlights, the teasers and performances of ‘If Good News Sold’ have been incredibly well-received by fans, “It's gone over great. It's a song that came to me a couple of years ago. I feel like with news cycles now, bad news gets more traction than good, and I think sometimes we can forget good news is out there. I think that song says that beautifully. Don't get too caught up in your phone, or what's on the News on TV - look more for the good instead of the bad”.
Listening the Louisiana native speak about the inspiration behind ‘If Good News Sold’, you can't help but feel John Prine's iconic song, ‘Spanish Pipedream’, served as a muse. Jordan Davis released his own atmospheric version of the hook as the intro to his widely acclaimed 2021 Buy Dirt project, on which he sings, “Blow up your TV / Throw away your paper / Go to the country / Build you a home / Plant a little garden / Eat a lot of peaches / Try and find Jesus on your own”.
With Jordan Davis also confirming to Holler that he'll start recording his Bluebird Days follow-up once he returns to the States in March, it's safe to say ‘If Good News Sold’ will keep the expectations sky-high, with the ruminative track shaping up to be another chart-topper in the mould of ‘Buy Dirt’ and ‘Next Thing You Know’.
