“This really is a new dawn in music right now,” Stella Prince passionately tells us, “with artists like Noah Kahan and Kacey Musgraves paving the way. Coming out of the tradition of American Folk, this new sound is imbued with the particular issues and sentiments of my generation. My music particularly, which I like to call ‘Gen Z Folk’, combines all the classic elements of ‘70s music while being fresh and new, with the point of view of a Gen Z songwriter reflecting on the intensity of today's issues."
Those issues are at the forefront of the new single from Stella Prince, who recently made history as the youngest performer at this year’s Tin Pan South and has spent the last six months playing a sold out UK tour, being invited to perform at the prestigious Song Suffragettes at The Listening Room in Nashville and selling out the legendary Bluebird Café in Nashville.
Her new single, ‘What's Mine,’ is written from a point of empowerment. It’s a song about finding the strength to stand up for what you believe in and not letting other people stand in your way or shape the way you feel about yourself. It’s a song about standing in your power, and however terrifying it might be at first, it’s about having that realization that your life’s pursuit is ultimately to experience your own sense of power and self-worth.
“You don’t have to say whatever rude thing comes to mind,” she sings. “You don’t have to bury my confidence that you yourself can’t find / You don’t have to build yourself up by being unkind / As much as you try you can’t take away from me what’s mine!"

Born and raised in Woodstock, NY and now based in Nashville, Prince also started Nashville’s only all-female Folk showcase sponsored by Change the Conversation. Taking place once a month at The Underdog in East Nashville, she has also taken it to New York City, Boston, Maine, Connecticut, Berkeley CA, and London, England, as well as making it part of Americanafest.
This is the first song taken from Stella Prince’s Dear Future Me EP released in full on May 24th
