It looks like it could be Flower Shops Season 2.0, as Ernest has teased two brand new singles. The singer-songwriter said that ‘Miss That Girl’ and ‘Unhang The Moon’ would be released on Friday, December 16.

Alongside the announcement, the Flower Shops hitmaker helped to whet fans' appetites by posting snippets of both tracks.

‘Miss That Girl’ finds Ernest resuming his role as the tragic hero that pervaded his 2022 album, Flower Shops. He croons despairingly about his self-destructive impulses, and the role he played in the relationship's implosion (“That girl is long gone, hate to say it's my fault”).

The playful, almost nursery-rhyme-like melody of the verses will make this a surefire earworm.

Ernest's fanbase will be hoping that the track is either a sign that another project is immanent, or possibly that a deluxe version of Flower Shops is on the way.

Soon after the revelation that ‘Miss That Girl’ would be dropping on Friday, Ernest followed this up with the news that he'd most likely also be releasing ‘Unhang The Moon’ on the same day.

He posted the video with the teasing, tongue-in-cheek caption, ‘Prolly drop this Friday too...’

The song finds Ernest heartbroken in his hometown, with the protagonist being left with little more than the haunting echoes of the couple's memories everywhere he looks (“Out on that dancefloor where we danced a thousand times/You're moving all night in front of my eyes”).

It's a slower, more reflective offering compared to ‘Miss That Girl’, and paints with a similar sonic palette to the likes of ‘If You Were Whiskey’ and ‘Comfortable When I'm Crazy’.

Ernest recently released an acoustic Salvage Sessions version of the latter, and fans will be hoping that more stripped-back remixes from Flower Shops are also being lined up.

Flower Shops was undoubtedly one of the stand-out projects from the past twelve months, and was recently selected as part of Holler's Albums of the Year 2022 list.
