This week marks the 14th consecutive week Ella Langley has held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, putting her on a par with iconic songs like Elton John's ‘Candle in the Wind’.

Langley continues her momentous summer with another groundbreaking achievement - something we'll never get tired of saying. Langley's worldwide hit ‘Choosin’ Texas’ has now defined her success specifically in terms of global female superstars, with the song now tied with two other international anthems for the most weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 by female artists without male collaborators.

Excluding the holiday season hit ‘All I Want for Christmas Is You,’ the two other wildly beloved songs of this kind that have spent the most time at No. 1 are Mariah Carey’s “We Belong Together” (2005) and Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” (1992).

It’s difficult to recognize true greatness when it’s still in the making. To put it simply, this colossal achievement for Langley completely changes the game for country music – and more specifically, for women in country music.

It is the first solely female written and produced song to make this feat since 2005, and the first female country song of this same manner to top the Hot 100 since Dolly Parton’s ‘9 to 5’.

The stamp of approval which will truly mark Langley’s greatness in the world of female hit-making is the same as it was for Carey, Houston, and even Dolly – the test of time. As we enjoy Langley’s massive hit now, in twenty years’ time, the female music world will change again, and it’ll turn some skeptics’ heads to put future up-and-comers in conversations with Langley – just as it turns heads to put the country superstar’s name in sentences next to names like Whitney Houston.

As for country music specifically, it’s nothing less than admirable to see Langley lead the women of country in the 2020’s this way, along with Megan Moroney, whose celebrated Cloud 9 record debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 albums ranking - two women keeping country well in the game on the all-genre charts.

Langley also holds the No. 3 spot on the Hot 100 this week with her single ‘Be Her’ and the No. 7 spot with her Morgan Wallen collaboration, ‘I Can’t Love You Anymore’. It's also refreshing to see Stella Lefty's viral hit, ‘Boston’, entering the Top Ten for the first time, with the Noah Kahan-interpolating earworm rising to No. 6. While we cannot predict the female country world in years’ time at the present moment, this writer would bet on one near future prediction – that a 15th consecutive week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 is as good as Ella Langley’s already.
