Ella Langley has secured her first ever Billboard Hot 100 Top Five single, with her heartbroken, traditional-leaning earworm, ‘Choosin‘ Texas’, hitting No. 1 on the latest chart.

For the ranking dated January 10th, 2026, Langley's Lone Star State-inspired anthem, which arrived in October 2025, slots in behind mainstream smashes such as Taylor Swift's ‘The Fate Of Ophelia’ (No. 1) and Olivia Dean's ‘Man I Need’ (No. 4).

It marks a colossal feat for Langley and yet another milestone in the Alabama native's burgeoning career, with the viral success of ‘Choosin’ Texas’ cementing the ‘you look like you love me’ hitmaker as one of the leading figures in modern country music.

It's also refreshing to see a female country artist breaking into the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 Top Five with a solo track, following the popularity of Langley's Riley Green collaborations, ‘you look like you love me’ and ‘Don't Mind If I Do’ last year.

The first chart after Christmas is always a tad unpredictable, as seasonal releases flock from the listing, leaving open the possibility of major jumps from songs like ‘Choosin’ Texas’. Last week, for instance, ‘Choosin’ Texas’ was sat at No. 48 on the chart. Similarly, Olivia Dean's soulful earworm, ’Man I Need’ leap from No. 36 to No. 4.

The success of ’Choosin‘ Texas’ has been propelled in part by the stellar songwriting - with country icon Miranda Lambert a co-writer - and the nostalgic, ‘90s country feel of the track, as well as, inevitably, the fact that Langley is singing about a love triangle, following widespread speculation regarding a supposed real-life love triangle involving Langley, Green and Megan Moroney. The tongue-in-cheek artwork, which is rumoured to be based on the now-infamous photo of Green and Moroney driving in Alabama, only adds to this lore. Langley has a command over social media, showcased once again by her recent cover of Rick Astley's ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’, which is blowing up on TikTok.

Now, there's a lot of chatter as to whether Langley can take ‘Choosin‘ Texas’ all the way to No. 1, with the notion of a star-studded remix being touted as a potential method for giving the track the boost it needs to topple Taylor Swift's ‘The Fate Of Ophelia’.

If this was seen as an option from Langley's camp, we'd love to see a revamped version of ’Choosin‘ Texas’ featuring the ‘nicotine’ singer-songwriter's good friend, Lambert. Or, if they really want to target a Hot 100 No. 1, perhaps a cross-genre link-up might be a wiser option, featuring someone with both mainstream sway and country curiosity, like one of pop's biggest names, Sabrina Carpenter.
