Ed Sheeran has confirmed that up-and-coming country artist, Sam Barber, will be his opening act at tonight's show (July 14) at the Royal Oak Theatre in Michigan.

Sheeran shared the news via his Instagram stories, accompanied by a caption encouraging ticket-holders to arrive at the venue in time to see Barber's set. Sheeran wrote, ‘The opener for tonight's show will be Sam Barber. Make sure you get down early x’.

It's another significant moment for Sam Barber, who has earned a burgeoning listenership with his stripped-back, introspective lyricism and his array of viral online covers.

Barber recently took the stage on Bruce Springsteen's date at BST Hyde Park 2023, delivering an eye-catching set that included the recently released singles, ‘Dancing in the Sky’ and ‘Ghost Town’.

Ed Sheeran's 2023 Subtract US tour has been immensely popular so far, with the British chart-topper having set a new attendance record at New Jersey's MetLife Stadium last month.

Barber's one-man-and-a-guitar aesthetic will align perfectly with Ed Sheeran's fanbase, and this booking is seemingly another hint that Sheeran is continuing to venture into the world of country music.

In May, the ‘Shape Of You’ hitmaker performed alongside Luke Combs at the ACM Awards, with the two friend then releasing a revamped rendition of Ed Sheeran's 2023 single, ‘Life Goes On’.
