Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has selected Dolly Parton as the 2022 Bezos Courage & Civility Award recipient.

The prize was established in order to recognise leaders and pioneers across a variety of fields.

Over the course of her career, Parton has spearheaded a variety of philanthropic projects, including her Dollywood Foundation.

As part of this foundation, the ’I Will Always Love You’ star has set up Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, which donates free books to over a million children every month.

During the pandemic, Parton also received widespread praise after she provided $1 million to help fund the creation of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

Bezos presented the award alongside his girlfriend, Lauren Sanchez, who described Parton as “a woman who gives with her heart and leads with love and compassion in every aspect of her work”.

The award follows Dolly Parton's induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame earlier in November. Parton is gearing up to release her greatest hits album, Diamonds & Rhinestones, on November 18.

Previous recipients of Bezos' lucrative Bezos Courage & Civility Award include Emmy Award winner and activist Van Jones, along with chef and philanthropist Jose Andres.
