Ashley McBryde has been invited to receive an honorary doctorate degree from her almer mater, Arkansas State University.

In a special video posted to her social media, McBryde is shown watching a video message from ASU; “Miss McBryde you are an absolutely incredible artist, an unbelievable songwriter, an amazingly powerful singer and an inspiration to red wolves around the globe,” announced A-State Chancellor, Todd Shields, in his emotional video message.

“While you may have placed the French horn aside, and slept in your car and sang in the bars, you are certainly not, and have never been, a girl going nowhere.” Shields continued with his video, McBryde watching with teary eyes and a gentle smile.

"that’s why today I’m inviting you from this stage to the commencement stage. I am so excited to let you know that Arkansas State University has decided to recognise you with an honorary doctoral degree in music.”

“We hope that this recognition stands proudly among your other incredible achievements, not just in music but in the countless lives you’ve inspired along the way.” Shield concluded.

“You’ve proven that no dream is too big for those who are brave enough to chase it. We are deeply proud that you are part of our pack, and we can’t wait to present your doctoral degree at an upcoming commencement ceremony. Congratulations, Doctor McBryde, Wolves Up.”

In the video, McBryde responds with the A-State ‘Wolves Up’ hand gesture, blinking back tears but remaining speechless. Showing her appreciation on socials, she captioned it, “Forever grateful. Forever honored. What a special moment…I can’t wait to walk across that stage! A-State!!”

The ‘One Night Standards’ singer returned to her Almer Mater recently, performing at the Riceland Hall in October last year (2024) with the Delta Symphony Orchestra to a sold-out crowd. Her next visit will be in May 2025, where she will receive this prestigious title in person.

There has been an outpouring of love for the singer across social media, with comments from fellow artists and industry supporters.

The Opry commented a simple, “Let’s gooo!” while UK BBC Broadcaster, ‘Whispering’ Bob Harris, left a truly British response, “Doctor McBryde! What a fantastic ring it has to it!! I’m so proud to know you Ashley. Best wishes and much love to you from across the pond xxx”.

Other artists joining in the celebrations were Morgane Stapleton, Tigirlily Gold, Fancy Hagood, TJ Osborne, Twinnie and Dan Smalley.

McBryde supports a plethora of organisations alongside her music, speaking openly about her sobriety and working tirelessly to make music accessible to all. This recognition goes a long way in acknowledging the exceptional progress she has made personally and the outstanding contribution she has made to the wider field of music. We’re not crying, you are…
