Who would have thought country's sweetheart Carrie Underwood and Jacoby Shaddix of nu-metal mainstays, Papa Roach, would team up for a song? Well, they did.
The unlikely pairing released a reimagining of Papa Roach's 'Leave A Light On (Talk Away The Dark)' on Friday (Aug. 2) as a way to to raise awareness for suicide prevention and mental health. Proceeds from the collaboration will benefit the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, or AFSP.
“We were humbled that Carrie was open to our mission, and hearing the power of Carrie’s voice in that recording session we were blown away,” Shaddix shared of the duet in a statement.
'Leave A Light On (Talk Away The Dark)' first appeared on Papa Roach's 2022 album, Ego Trip, and the haunting rock opus has since grown into a fan favorite. Underwood's participation, the lending of her stadium-filling vocals to the poignant anthem, will likely bring cross-genre appeal to such a meaningful track.
Shaddix added: “Not only is her vocal ability unequaled, but the impact of her voice brings a new meaning to our cause and will help people all over the globe. It’s an honor to have a ’Rock Star’ bring life to this track with us.”
“I’m such a huge fan of Jacoby and Papa Roach and was honored to be invited to record ‘Leave a Light On’ with them," Underwood shared of the project. "It’s a beautiful song and the message behind it and the band’s mission to shine a light on suicide prevention and mental health awareness has never been more important.”
