Carly Pearce has shared an intimate performance of her new song, ‘my place’, which will appear on the Kentucky singer-songwriter's hotly anticipated upcoming album, hummingbird.
The vulnerable offering finds Carly portraying the challenge of having to adjust to seeing an old flame going out with other people, and coming to terms with the fact that it's no longer ‘her place’ to feel any sense of ownership over who they can spend time with.
It's a perceptive track that demonstrates the relatable, incisive songwriting Carly Pearce has become known for, with fans counting down the days until they can hear ‘my place’ as part of Carly's new hummingbird record, which arrives on June 14.
Carly Pearce delivered a powerful, stripped-back rendition of ’my place’ at the Big Machine UK showcase in the lead-up to C2C Festival 2024, before Carly performed the song again during her blockbuster main-stage set at London's O2 Arena on March 8.
The track pivots around a clever play on the phrase ‘it ain't my place’, which carries the double meaning of Carly Pearce's ‘right’ to wonder about where her ex is, as well as referring to the fact that her old flame's home is no longer ‘her place’. Ashley Cooke explores a similarly witty concept on her current Country Radio hit, ‘your place’.
‘my place’ will be joined on hummingbird by the already released ‘country music made me do it’, ‘heels over head’, the Chris Stapleton-assisted ‘we don't fight anymore’ and the title-track, with fans hoping Carly treats them to another single before June 14.
