After dropping a flurry of teasers which seemingly hinted at new music, Carly Pearce has today surprised fans with the announcement of her 2024 album, Hummingbird.
The unveiling of the project, which will arrive on June 14, has been accompanied by the release of the album's title-track. The stripped-back, intricate offering finds Carly Pearce musing about the changing seasons, and how, despite a sense of wistfulness at the ending of a relationship, she can look ahead to a brighter future.
She utilises the powerful metaphor of a hummingbird flying past to convey how she hates saying goodbye, but nonetheless has to stay true to herself and follow her path.
Carly Pearce has been suggesting a new project is on the way for some time now, with the ‘Never Wanted To Be That Girl’ hitmaker posting a series of photos linked to the hummingbird motif. Earlier in February, Carly revealed she now has a tattoo of the bird, with fans speculating the symbol would serve as a key theme of the album.
In addition to ‘hummingbird’, the new record will include previously released tracks, ‘country music made me do it’, ‘heels over head’ and the Chris Stapleton-assisted ‘We Don't Fight Anymore’, which received a 2024 Grammy nomination.
The 14-track album will also feature never-heard-before songs, such as ‘fault line’, ‘oklahoma’, ‘pretty please’, ‘rock paper scissors’, ‘truck on fire’, ‘still blue’ and ‘woman to woman’.
hummingbird will be Carly's first full-length studio album since 2021's widely lauded 29: Written in Stone project, which spawned fan favourites such as ‘Easy Going’, ‘Next Girl’, ‘Should've Known Better’ and the chart-topping ‘What He Didn't Do’.
With a sprawling list of headlining tour dates on the books and a blockbuster run in support of Tim McGraw, attendees will be hoping Carly Pearce treats them to a few live debuts of new music ahead of hummingbird's release date this summer.
