BigXthaPlug is discussing how he and Morgan Wallen first crossed paths, with the genre-blurring rapper chatting to the Club Shay Shay podcast about his foray into country music.

Hot on the heels of releasing his new album, BETTER OVER TIME, BigX sheds some light on why he decided to make a country project - I Hope You're Happy - in 2025. Although Wallen didn't end up featuring on the record, the ‘Whiskey Glasses’ singer-songwriter was one of the first country artists to show BigXthaPlug love.

When asked about one of the more unexpected or eyebrow-raising guests he's had come through at his shows, BigX pauses, before smiling and responding, “Morgan Wallen”.

He goes on, “He came when I was on tour with Kevin [Gates]. This was early in my career. Like I said, this is when I was country's favourite rapper. Morgan Wallen came”.

BigX shares how he was surprised that Wallen came solely to see him, and didn't even watch the main act, “I'm on tour with Kevin Gates. [Wallen] came to one of my shows and watched just me perform - he didn't even watch Kevin Gates perform!”

The ‘All The Way’ rapper fondly remembers them having a conversation backstage, which produced the now-iconic photo of the two chart-topping artists linking up, “He was in the green room with me talking...and he's the biggest country artist in the world at the time. So yeah. Definitely going to have to say Morgan Wallen”.

As for whether BigX regrets pivoting to country for I Hope You're Happy, he laughs, “Nope. Not at all...They gave me millions of dollars just to do it, right? And then I've recouped. So now I'm making...and it expanded me so much...Man, there be so many different people in my crowds. But that's what we're doing it for”.

While I Hope You're Happy Now was a star-studded and hugely successful project, featuring collaborations with the likes of Ella Langley, Darius Rucker, Luke Combs, Shaboozey and more, there was a slight sense of disappointment from fans that we never got the BigXthaPlug and Morgan Wallen link-up that we expected.

Especially given how BigX and Wallen met up long before the rapper started teasing a foray into country, it seemed a given that the latter would appear on I Hope You're Happy.

Wallen did reveal during his 2025 conversation with Theo Von for This Past Weekend that he'd asked BigXthaPlug to write a verse for ‘Miami’, which appeared on I'm the Problem. However, he never heard back, with Wallen coming across as a little disgruntled that the ‘Texas’ rapper didn't contribute his verse in time.

Ultimately, Wallen released ‘Miami’ as a solo track, before reimagining the trap-leaning anthem as a blockbuster collaboration with Lil Wayne and Rick Ross a few weeks later.

While BigX has returned to a more rap-centric sound on his latest album, BETTER OVER TIME, Wallen's star-power and genre-versatility is such that we could still see a collaboration happening at some point. Perhaps on Wallen's next solo project, we'll finally get to see these two titans colliding - we just hope the Sneedville native isn't holding a grudge after things didn't work out for ‘Miami’ last year.
