Barack Obama's unveiling of his summer playlist is always a keenly anticipated moment, with the former president being renowned for his eclectic, genre-spanning taste in music.

Obama has now shared his 2023 summer selection of songs, with a trio of modern country trailblazers, Luke Combs, Ashley McBryde and The War and Treaty, all making the cut.

Combs’ immensely popular Tracy Chapman cover, ‘Fast Car’, has been included by Obama, along with Ashley McBryde's recently released single, ‘The Devil I Know’, which will appear on the Arkansas native's upcoming album of the same name.

Holler's favourite husband-and-wife duo, The War and Treaty, also earned an inclusion in Obama's summer soundtrack, with their 2023 song, ‘Ain't No Harmin’ Me’, making its way into the playlist. The acclaimed track appears on the couple's new album, Lover's Game.

Barack Obama always makes a concerted effort to ensure a wide range of genres are represented in his yearly selection, with a couple of country songs often being featured. In last year's summer playlist, for instance, Kacey Musgraves’ ‘Keep Lookin’ Up’ and Maren Morris’ ‘The Furthest Thing’ were noticeable inclusions from Obama.

Also appearing in Barack Obama's high-profile 2023 curation alongside Luke Combs, Ashley McBryde and The War and Treaty is SZA (‘Snooze’), J Hus and Drake (‘Who Told You’), Jorja Smith (‘Try Me’), Ice Spice and Nicki Minaj (‘Princess Diana’), Michael Kiwanuka (‘Love & Hate’), boygenius’ ‘Not Strong Enough’ and more.

In addition to this array of newer inclusions, a variety of classic tracks have received a spot in Barack Obama's summer 2023 playlist, such as Bob Dylan's ‘Everything Is Broken’, Otis Redding's ‘(Sittin’ On) The Dock Of The Bay’, Marvin Gaye's ‘Inner City Blues (Make Me Wann Holler)’ and Stevie Wonder's ‘Golden Lady’.
