  • Song Work On Me
  • Lyrics
Well I heard you from across the bar
    Over clinkin’ glasses
    Like a work of art
I’m a sucker for an accent
    From somewhere far
Can ya blame me, I’m a Californian girl with a southern heart ...

The Background:

Dasha, country music's resident pop princess, has shared the next chapter in her storied career with the release of her highly-anticipated 2025 EP, Anna.

Being the singer's middle name and taken from her gut-wrenching letter to her younger self, 'Oh, Anna!,' the project features eight tracks undulating between high-energy, flirty bops to vulnerable bits of self-reflection.

Finding its way into the former is none other than the project's kick-off track, 'Work On Me,' which sees Dasha taking on a little shade of promiscuity.

The Sound:

Crashing into a harmonica-forward intro, 'Work On Me' features a sexy bass line front and center that keeps the whole affair in line.

As a pedal steel floats around in the background, the track sounds like something that could've soundtracked any and every cult-classic romcom from the early 2000s, in all their glory.

The Meaning:

"Well I heard you from across the bar
Over clinkin’ glasses
Like a work of art
I’m a sucker for an accent
From somewhere far
Can ya blame me, I’m a Californian girl with a southern heart

And I don’t know your first or your last name baby
Or if you’re going home to a hometown lady
The way you grip the can I can tell that you’re just my type"

The song opens with our singer catching sight of quite the suitable bachelor across the bar. It's all but love at first sight as our narrator explains that she's been hooked clean and quick... and it helps when the apple of her eye also has an accent.

She doesn't know anything about him other than the fact that he's exactly her type physically–no names, no relationship statuses or anything else. Yet, she knows that he's the one for her.

"You like, you like..
Workin’ with your hands
Till they’re covered in grease
Fixin’ up your bronco in the Tennessee heat
Something dirty on my mind
And you got dirt on your jeans
Well I’m a lil’ broken baby
Could you work on me"

Getting the feeling that this mystery man is a mechanic or does some sort of trade work–as opposed to a white collar paper pusher–we cut to the future where he's out working on an old car and she's trying to work all of the not so PG thoughts out of her mind.

Since he loves getting his hands dirty and making broken things get back into working condition, our singer simply poses the question if he would work his magic on her... you can read between the lines.

"Well my heart’s been through the mud
A couple assholes before you kinda fucked me up
What’s the worst than can happen from a little fun
I’m a real smart girl who's like getting a little dumb

I don’t need to know your first and last name baby
Or if you’re coming home to a hometown lady longhorn on your buckle I can tell
You’re just my type
You like you like"

Looking back at the less than successful track record she's had in the past romantically, she makes the case for why she's in need of repair. Her heart's been through hell, but she'd be more than willing to go through a little more at his hands.

Maybe it won't last forever, or even until tomorrow, but she's happy to get to know him a little more intimately tonight if he is.

"You like, you like
Workin’ with your hands
Till they’re covered in grease
‘N fixin’ up your bronco in the Tennessee heat
Got something dirty on my mind
And you got dirt on your jeans
‘N I’m a lil’ broken baby
Could you work on
A body needing something to make it feel brand new
I’m a couple shots deeps and a couple screws loose"

What has Dasha said about ‘Work On Me’?

Ahead of the EP's release, Dasha offered some insight into the creative process behind this project.

“Getting back into the studio and writing helped me find myself again. This project is part one of my story," she shared. "I'm still learning about Dasha, but I've remembered who Anna is. I can't wait for y'all to get to know her too.”
