The Background

And another one! Gavin Adcock is dropping one more tune before he says farewell to his breakout year.

Following the release of 'Perfect Man' just weeks ago, the rowdy entertainer is sharing 'Winner at Losing', a self-deprecating new single about hard knocks and a life spent walking fine lines.

The two fresh tracks closely follow the young hitmaker's 2025 full-length album, Own Worst Enemy, leading us to wonder if a deluxe edition of the expansive project could be well underway. Only time will tell.

Until then, fans get an early Christmas gift by way of 'Winner at Losing'.

The Sound

'Winner at Losing' opens with the cry of smoldering steel and the echo of a thundering rhythm, which gives the song its steady heartbeat. That, however, soon explodes with the chorus, the song erupting into a rumbling and wanton, defiant and hungry, country rock epic. The tune whispers with resonant strings throughout, but overall, the drums are the star.

'Winner at Losing' marks one more arena-ready anthem for the Adcock songbook, finding good company among a repertoire already overflowing with raucous hits and exposing ballads.

The Meaning

Well I ain’t a gambler,
But I’ve been known to roll the dice
If life’s a hammer,
Well I’ve been a nail for my whole life

When it comes to 'Winner at Losing', it's really all in the name. Throughout the song, Adcock sings of all the times he's taken a chance in this life, all the times he's wagered, come up short and ended up on the losing end. It's almost as if the only thing he's good at is failing.

The artist sings of his misfortune as if it were some kind of malady or affliction. It never fails. Every card that he lays down or bet he places gets met with snake eyes.

Despite all these strokes of bad luck, though, he can't seem to give up, singing, "Can’t walk away and I’ll never fold."

Yeah, the wire I’m on just keeps gettin’ thinner
No sympathy for a life-long sinner
Oh, it ain’t a choice I got worth choosin’
I’m a winner at losing

By the song's end, he's resolved to wearing his misery like a badge of honor, deciding to play the cards he's been dealt and continue to watch the lines he's been walking grow finer. His thought process dictates that if you're going to keep on losing, you might as well be good at it.

Well I ain’t a gambler,
But I’ve been known to roll the dice
If life’s a hammer,
Well I’ve been a nail for my whole life

Another day is gone
Still livin’ wrong
But I’ve never been right

I ain’t gotta prove it, my comin’ up short
I’ve been abusin’ my last resort
The cards that I’m layin’, ain’t worth playin’
Can’t walk away and I’ll never fold

Yeah, the wire I’m on just keeps gettin’ thinner
No sympathy for a life-long sinner
Oh, it ain’t a choice I got worth choosin’
I’m a winner at losing

Some say it’s bad luck
Others might call it a curse
I sent some prayers up
But this ain’t somethin’ you can fix in church

Cause the dark side’s done its work

I ain’t gotta prove it, my comin’ up short
I’ve been abusin’ my last resort
The cards that I’m layin’, ain’t worth playin’
Can’t walk away and I’ll never fold

Yeah, the wire I’m on just keeps gettin’ thinner
No sympathy for a life-long sinner
Oh, it ain’t a choice I got worth choosin’
I’m a winner at losing

I’m a winner at losing

Another day is gone
Still livin’ wrong
But I’ve never been right

I ain’t gotta prove it, my comin’ up short
I’ve been abusin’ my last resort
The cards that I’m layin’, ain’t worth playin’
Can’t walk away and I’ll never fold

Yeah, the wire I’m on just keeps gettin’ thinner
No sympathy for a life-long sinner
Oh, it ain’t a choice I got worth choosin’
I’m a winner at losing

Yeah, I’m a winner at losing
