The Background:
After debuting it during his 2026 UK and European run of shows, after much fanfare and excitement, Tucker Wetmore finally released ‘Who Told You That’ on Friday, July 10th.
It's a breezy, summery ode penned by four Nashville heavyweights, Jordan Schmidt, Ashley Gorley, Hunter Phelps and Michael Tyler, with ‘Who Told You That’ keeping the momentum going following his recent singles, ‘Proving You Right’ and ‘Sunburn’. All three are expected to feature on Wetmore's rumoured new album, Loverboy.
The Sound:
Wetmore's sleek vocals combine with a playful, uptempo instrumental. The synth-driven backing and disco-infused composition gives this a retro feel, with the Washington native doubling down on the beachside, sun-soaked ambience of ‘Sunburn’.
‘Who Told You That’ is a country-pop anthem that seemingly signals, once again, that Wetmore's next chapter of music will explore more nostalgic, summer-inspired textures.
The Meaning:
Throughout ‘Who Told You That’, our narrator parrots an array of rumours and mischaracterisations that he's been lumped with, as he attempts to convince a girl that he doesn't deserve his bad reputation. He suggests that he's been labelled as someone who just wants to sleep with a woman for one night and never call her back, as well as someone who struggles with commitment and who will leave her lonely.
But as he outlines over the course of the chorus, he feels like these are misrepresentations of what he's really like. The protagonist proceeds to paint a much more favourable picture of what he'd be like as a boyfriend, if she would take a chance on him (“I'll take a walk on the beach / I'll write your name in the sand / Ain't no romantic in me? / I don't know who told you that / I'll bring you breakfast in bed / Mimosas up in your glass / Treat you like my Juliet / I don't know who told you that”).

“Who told you? Who told you? Who told you that?
Who told you? Who told you that?
I'm a mess, won't commit
Heard they said
That I just wanna get in your sheets
Then I'm out
Talk is cheap in a two-faced town
Yeah, the grapevine says I'm gonna leave you lonely
I say that they don't even know me
I'll take a walk on the beach
I'll write your name in the sand
Ain't no romantic in me?
I don't know who told you that
I'll bring you breakfast in bed
Mimosas up in your glass
Treat you like my Juliet
I don't know who told you that
I'm that guy who's gonna hit her with a bad goodbye
They love to lie
'Cause baby, I'll make you mine, put single me in the past
They say you're wasting your time?
I don't know who told you that
Who told you? Who told you? Who told?
I don't know who told you that
Who told you? Who told you that?
Said I'm wild, yeah, okay (Yeah, okay)
A good time ain't a crime, and I'm wild about you, babe (You, babe)
I'll dip you, flip you, spin you 'round
Kiss you right there in the crowd
Let me prove 'em wrong right now
And show you what I'm all about
I'll take a walk on the beach
I'll write your name in the sand
Ain't no romantic in me?
I don't know who told you that
I'll bring you breakfast in bed
Mimosas up in your glass
Treat you like my Juliet
I don't know who told you that
I'm that guy who's gonna hit her with a bad goodbye
They love to lie (To lie)
'Cause baby, I'll make you mine, put single me in the past
They say you're wasting your time?
I don't know who told you that
Who told you? Who told you? Who told?
I don't know who told you that
Who told you? Who told you that?
Was it one of my exes?
They need to tell the truth
One of them jealous fellas
Wishin' they was holdin' you
Girl, don't pay no attention
'Cause you got all of mine
And I got forever if you got the time, yeah
I'll take a walk on the beach
I'll write your name in the sand
Ain't no romantic in me?
I don't know who told you that
I'll bring you breakfast in bed
Mimosas up in your glass
Treat you like my Juliet
I don't know who told you that
I'm that guy who's gonna hit her with a bad goodbye
They love to lie (To lie)
'Cause baby, I'll make you mine, put single me in the past
They say you're wasting your time?
I don't know who told you that
Who told you? Who told you? Who told?
I don't know who told you that
Who told you? Who told you that?
Who told you? Who told you? Who told you that?
Who told you? Who told you that?”
