The Background:
Hot on the heels of releasing her Stars (Blue Hour Deluxe) album, Anne Wilson wasted no time in giving fans a sneak preview of her next chapter of music with ‘Who I Am To You’. After adding ‘Who I Am To You’ to her 2026 Stars Tour setlist in July, Wilson thankfully confirmed she'd be releasing the soul-stirring offering in August.
It finds the Kentucky native doubling down on her ability to blur the lines between country and Contemporary Christian Music, with ‘Who I Am To You’ leaning slightly more towards the latter as she rejects the Devil's lies and holds fast to Jesus’ guidance.
The Sound:
While ‘Who I Am To You’ incorporates country elements, particularly during the dramatic, guitar-fuelled first verse, this track feels grounded in Contemporary Christian Music. Wilson's powerhouse vocals are cushioned by galvanising drums and choral backing, all of which come together to accentuate the gravitas of this anthem.
The Meaning:
Over the course of ‘Who I Am To You’, the ‘Rain in the Rearview’ singer-songwriter underlines that she's not going to take any notice of the Devil's attempts to make her feel insecure about herself. Instead, Wilson will take comfort and confidence in the knowledge that all that matters is who she is to God and Jesus, rather than who she is to the world, to the culture, to her critics - or to the Devil.
She begins by admitting that the Devil has been sowing seeds of doubt, with Wilson confessing that his attempts to make her feel bad about herself have been sounding truthful.
With a clever metaphor, she then determines not to let those seeds grow roots. Instead of listening to who the Devil is saying she is, rather, she will only care who Jesus says she is. And, as she outlines, He felt she - and everyone else - was worthy of dying for on the cross (“When doubt gets to working / And tells me I’m worthless / Those tricks they don’t work anymore / Cause a king says I’m worth dying for”).

“That liar, liar’s whispering again
And lately it’s been sounding like the truth
Sowing seeds of doubt up in my head
But those seeds of doubt ain’t ever growing roots
-
Devil he can’t tell me who I am
Cause who I am is who I am to You
-
Who I am is who I am to You
I’m not who I’ve been
Who I’ve been has been made new
So every time
The enemy tries me
I say get behind me
I’m trading his lies for the truth
Devil he can’t tell me who I am
Cause who I am is who I am to You
-
I’m loved and I’m chosen
I’m no longer broken
And now that I know that I’m Yours
-
When doubt gets to working
And tells me I’m worthless
Those tricks they don’t work anymore
Cause a king says I’m worth dying for
-
Who I am is who I am to You
I’m not who I’ve been
Who I’ve been has been made new
So every time
The enemy tries me
I say get behind me
I’m trading his lies for the truth
Devil he can’t tell me who I am
Cause who I am is who I am to You
-
Devil he can’t, Devil he can’t
Tell me who I am
Devil he can’t, Devil he can’t
Tell me who I am
When he tries
Lyin’ them lies
I’ll tell that Devil again
Devil he can’t, Devil he can’t
Tell me
-
Who I am is who I am to You
I’m not who I’ve been
Who I’ve been has been made new
So every time
The enemy tries me
I say get behind me
I’m trading his lies for the truth
Devil he can’t tell me who I am
Cause who I am is who I am to You”
