It finds the duo showcasing their penchant for old-school country music, with Green and Worthington trading verses about the their attempts to use some Jack to heal their pain.
The Sound:
As you'd expect, given Worthington's involvement, ‘Well Well Whiskey’ leans into the steel-soaked, 80’s-country-inspired aesthetic both he and Green are such big fans of.
‘Well Well Whiskey’ sounds like it could be an old George Strait song, only with the introduction of some heavier electric guitars, which add to the drama and intensity of the song.
The Meaning:
On ‘Well Well Whiskey’, we meet a protagonist who has been sober for a while, but now that his beloved partner has left him, he's ready to meet up with an old friend once again.
That friend, of course, is Whiskey. The narrator underlines that he has no plans to drink beer or tequila tonight - the only thing that's going to get him through is some Jack Daniel's.
Throughout the song, Green and Worthington sing playfully to their glass of whiskey as though it's a real friend, as they do their best to get over the severe pain of the break-up.
