The Background:
Undoubtedly one of the most buzzed-about songs on Riley Green's 2026 studio album, That's Just Me, ‘P.O.S.’ finds the Alabama native making light of his ex's criticisms.
He first shared a clip of the song on February 20th, 2026 - the same day Green's rumoured former flame, Megan Moroney, released her third album, Cloud 9. Given how Moroney sent some not-so-subtle jibes at Green on ‘Who Hurt You?’ from that project, the timing of Green sharing ‘P.O.S.’ felt pointed, to say the least.
Green has maintained that he isn't online enough or conniving enough to have plotted this, and he simply wanted to share a song he loved, but it's safe to say fans aren't convinced, especially given the apparent nod to Moroney's song, ‘Hair Salon’, in the lyrics.
The Sound:
‘P.O.S.’ snakes along a similarly guitar-driven instrumental to much of That's Just Me, with Green's guttural, laid-back croons capturing the shrug-of-the-shoulders spirit of the song. If one thing comes across through his vocal delivery here, it's that he's entirely unbothered by his old flame's attempts to ruffle his feathers.
The Meaning:
‘P.O.S.‘ finds Green assuming what his ex must be saying about him following their break-up, with the ‘Worst Way’ singer-songwriter imagining that she's telling her mother, friends and loved ones that he's a “lying, cheating, stealing son of a gun”.
There's a playfulness underpinning ‘P.O.S.’, with Green's exaggerated list of negative qualities intended to make the listener feel as though his old flame was simply being unreasonable (“I might drive too fast / Spend too much time chasing largemouth bass / I’m hooked on cussin’, hooked on snuff, / And we both know you love that / I drink a little cold beer / Around hunting season, I disappear”).
But as he approaches the second half of the hook, Green winks at his ex as he promises they won't find anyone like him. Then, towards the end of the song, he outlines that he's sure he'll one day meet a girl that won't have any problem with his various ‘negative’ traits, making it clear that he has no plans of changing the way he is.
Given all the conjecture that ‘P.O.S.’ is about Moroney, the lyric “I bet right now you’re running me down at the hair salon saying “yeah, I’m glad he’s gone”” feels like a nod to Moroney's early song, ‘Hair Salon’, which is all about small-town gossip.
What has Riley Green said about ‘P.O.S.’?
During an interview with SiriusXM's The Highway, Green explained how ‘P.O.S.’ came about, “What a fun song...‘P.O.S.’ is a lot less spicy than people would probably make it out to be. Wrote it the same day I wrote ‘Lookout Mountain’. Me and Randy Montana and Drake White and Erik Dylan were sitting in a room, and I had a...I don't know if it was the title, but I just had an idea where I was like, man, I want to write something all the things where a good old boy from where I'm from, what we would be proud of, that maybe some people would look down on, like a rusty truck...I've never been more proud of anything than my truck...”
Green went on, “But Randy always does this when we're writing where he'll say, ‘I like that guy’. He's talking about the character in the song, and...That song was just, let's write the guy that we like, the guy that some people would look down on”.
He emphasised that it was not, despite the rumours, about anyone specific, “Truly, it was not inspired by anyone, but again, the internet...I guess...I think that people that give me credit for being really thought out are giving me too much credit, probably”.

“You can drag every letter of my name on a chain through the Mississippi mud
Tell all your friends, your mom and them
That I’m a lying, cheating, stealing son of a gun
You can call me every name
And you can blame it all on me
Say I’m a sorry S.O.B.
Hell, I might be
-
Yeah, I might drive too fast
Spend too much time chasing largemouth bass
I’m hooked on cussin’, hooked on snuff,
And we both know you love that
I drink a little cold beer
Around hunting season, I disappear
You hated my dog
You hated my songs
I guess you hated it way out here
One day your gonna try
But you ain’t never gonna find
Another low down
No good
Rusty truck driving
P.O.S. like me
-
I bet right now you’re running me down at the hair salon saying “yeah, I’m glad he’s gone”
But we both know you’re a mile or so from me even being close to barely moving on
I bet ya missin’ that floorboard trash
Up in that Chevrolet cab
I bet you’d like to climb inside
Maybe take long slow ride
-
With a guy who drives too fast
Spends too much time chasing largemouth bass
He’s hooked on cussin’, hooked on snuff,
And we both know you love that
I drink a little cold beer
Around hunting season I’ll disappear
You hated my dog
You hated my songs
I guess you hated it way out here
One day you’re gonna try
But you’re never gonna find
Another low down
No good
Rusty truck driving
P.O.S. like me
-
So, go on and tell the world I’m good for nothing
But I bet there’s a girl out there that would love to put up with
-
A guy that drives too fast
Spends too much time chasing largemouth bass
He’s hooked on cussin’, hooked on snuff,
And I bet she’d be fine with that
He drinks a little cold beer
Every hunting season he’ll disappear
She’s gonna like my dog
And like my songs
I bet she’ll love it way out here
One day your gonna try
But you ain’t never gonna find
Another low down
No good
Rusty truck driving
Waffle House eating
Overall wearing
P.O.S. like me
-
Yeah, a piece of shit like me”
