The Background
The Red Clay Strays have used their latest single, ‘Demons In Your Choir’ to announce their next album, Grateful, which is set for release on June 5th, 2026. It is the third instalment of this next project - something which they have kept relatively quiet about - and joins the previously released ‘People Hatin’’ and ‘If I Didn’t Know You’.
The band have been teasing the track across socials for a while now, with choirs across the country replicating the powerful chorus. It has been largely received well and fans have lapped up the announcement of the next album alongside the release of this single.
The Sound
‘Demons In Your Choir’ opens with quiet, moody chords, building to a fuller sound in the second verse. There is a clear gospel and spiritual theme weaved into the track, with singer and frontman Brandon Coleman’s inimitable vocals supported by choral echoes throughout.
By the time we reach the second chorus, the band and choir are in full flow with such force, creating a spine-tingling sit-up-and-listen movement. Whilst starkly different from hits like ‘Wonderin’ Why’, it demonstrates why The Red Clay Strays are one of the best country bands of our time.
The Meaning
The band's frontman, Brandon Coleman, along with siblings Matthew and Dakota Coleman, have penned a song that explores how even the purist of intentions can be laced with sin.
‘Demons In Your Choir’ speaks to a lost soul whose attempt at serenity has been clouded by the noise of their ‘so-called friends’ with darker spirits. The narrator discusses how perspective has been lost, and that the subject of the song is unable to recognise the danger to their faith, even in the purest of activities. Having ‘demons in your choir’ feels synonymous with a fungus that has taken root, a poison ivy perhaps, that feels impossible to eradicate.
Our singer’s repetitive use of ‘if’ when referencing their ability to save them suggests that the subject is a lost cause. They have been duped into a life of wrongdoing, when perhaps believing they were taking the righteous path. Coleman sings, ‘You’ve been singin’ with the liars / And they’re playin’ your worst desires’, demonstrating that they’re a puppet in the devil’s sin.
Coleman and his band create something akin to a eulogy. It feels like there’s no way back for this lonely soul until they recognise the depths to which they have fallen. Until then, no matter how much they dress it up as church, their faith is tainted and their spirit damned.

“Darlin', why'd you go and listen
They ain't got nothing good to say
Now there's so much life you're missin'
So-called friends led you astray
You know the devil keeps his company
With all his bright and shiny things
It ain't a church just 'cause it feels good
It ain't an angel 'cause it's got wings
-
You've been singin' with the liars
And they're playin' your worst desires
If I could pull you from the fire
Then maybe I could save you
From those demons in your choir
-
Now you're as lonely as you've ever been
Just like the company you keep
You gotta stop lettin' 'em tear you down now, mm
'Fore they kill you in your sleep
I wish you knew what you deserved (Oh-yeah)
I wish I could give you what you need (Oh-yeah)
You're gonna wake up, and you'll wonder (Oh-yeah)
Why did you ever leave
-
You've been singin' with the liars
And they're playin' your worst desires
If I could pull you from the fire
Then maybe I could save you
From these demons in your choir (Save ya, save ya)
From these demons in your choir
-
You've been singing with the liars
And they're playing your worst desires
If I could pull you from the fire
Then maybe I could save you
From these demons in your choir (Save ya, save ya)
-
From these demons in your choir (Save ya, save ya)
From these demons in your choir (Save ya, save ya)
From these demons in your choir (Save ya, save ya)
From these demons in your choir”
