The Background:

On Friday, June 12th 2026, in the middle of the European leg of his With Heaven On Tour, Zach Bryan surprised fans be uploading a brand new song to YouTube, ‘Breakfast in Bed’. While the Oklahoma native often shares snippets and clips of unreleased material via social media, he doesn't appear to have teased this one before.

It's not yet clear whether the ’Something in the Orange’ singer-songwriter is planning to make the track available to stream. It sounds mixed and mastered enough for an official release, while capturing the raw, DIY spirit that first drew fans to Bryan's music.

The Sound:

‘Breakfast in Bed’ pivots around an undulating, low-key acoustic guitar riff, with Bryan crooning ruefully across the deliberate, weighty strums. It gives the track a notably reflective and introspective feel, mirroring the isolated ambience of the accompanying video.

As Bryan sings from the darkness of a lonely hotel room, with the faint glow of a street-light visible through the window behind him, he gives the song the feel of a 3am confession.

The Meaning:

It's unclear whether, throughout ‘Breakfast in Bed’, Bryan is singing to someone he has fallen out with, or to himself. He addresses someone who is clearly going through something difficult, as he observes, “There's more blue in you than there is in the sky”.

He goes on to express how he has little sympathy for this person, before referencing how they struggle with alcohol, quipping that when they have beer, they have it for breakfast. Bryan sadly describes how this person has a world of opportunities in front of them (“You're so damn alive, boy”), but they keep getting in their own way by drinking heavily and not taking care of themselves (“But halfway dead”).

It's here that it feels like Bryan could be interpreted as singing forlornly to himself, perhaps meditating on how his name is in lights and he's touring across Europe - the dream of many musicians - but still battles with some of his lingering demons. This is just one reading, however, and it could equally be interpreted as Bryan singing to someone who has left, and who he hopes will get back on track. The opening line of the chorus - “So when you wake, when you get around come Sunday / I’ll be halfway to the other side” - seems to imply the latter.

“They called your bluff, they fed you a lie,
There’s more blue in you than there is in the sky,
Is this what you prayed for,
Is this what you hoped?
You can’t hang yourself boy, without enough rope,
-
All of the children, are gathered around,
All of the corn in the modern sound,
Beer here for breakfast, is breakfast in bed,
You’re so damn alive boy, but halfway dead,
-
So when you wake, when you get around come Sunday,
I’ll be halfway to the other side,
Beer here on Sundays is, breakfast in bed,
You ain’t, half the man that you are in your head,
How you ain’t,
Half the man that you are in your head,
How you ain’t,
Half the man that you are in your head
-
You’re only human, we all know it too,
Does that make your vices, a crutch or the truth,
They called you a sickness, an outright disease,
Does praying to your God make you hot in the cheeks?
-
So when you wake, when you get around come Sunday,
I’ll be halfway to the other side,
Beer here on Sundays is, breakfast in bed,
You ain’t, half the man that you are in your head,
How you ain’t,
Half the man that you are in your head,
You’re so damn alive boy,
But half way dead,
-
You ain’t a sickness, you ain’t a disease,
Does praying to your God, make you hot in the cheeks?”
