We're a day away from one of the biggest festivals in modern country music, which kicks off with a headline set from one of the biggest artists in modern country music, Zach Bryan.
Taking the stage on Friday, April 24th, Zach Bryan's Stagecoach performance feels like a momentous occasion for a plethora of reasons. This marks the Oklahoma titan's first proper concert of 2025 (not counting his impromptu pre-Super Bowl set in New Orleans), as well as being his headlining debut at the California festival.
In recent years, Stagecoach has become mythologised, with the festival now perceived as a tantalising melting pot of surprise on-stage collaborations and the launchpad for new eras of music. This is certainly how Post Malone treated his stint in Indio, California last year, with the genre-blending maverick debuting the lead single from his debut country record, ‘I Had Some Help’, with Morgan Wallen.
We're expecting something similar from Lana Del Rey's Stagecoach set this year, as the pop phenom lays the foundation for her new country album, The Right Person Will Stay.
But what about Zach Bryan? He's repeatedly underlined that he won't be touring in 2025 (despite having booked a series of stadium shows and festival dates that feels an awful lot like a tour), but he's also confirmed there's new music on the way.
The ‘Something in the Orange’ hitmaker has always had a reputation for the dizzying rate at which he teases songs via social media, but even for Zach Bryan, he's been particularly active on Instagram of late. Barely a day goes by without an unreleased snippet, with Bryan currently working on two projects - his With Heaven On Top EP and a full-length studio album, believed to be titled Motorbreath.
Could Zach Bryan be planning to perform some of these new tracks at Stagecoach Festival? While Bryan gives us real-time updates on new music via his socials, the ‘I Remember Everything’ chart-topper tends to be a little less forthcoming regarding his setlist, with Bryan often preferring to perform tracks fans already know.
What's more, Zach Bryan gave us a sneak peak at his Stagecoach 2025 setlist earlier in April, and fans were disappointed to see there weren't any unreleased tracks lined up.
Judging by that setlist - which, of course, could have changed in recent weeks - Zach Bryan will be performing the live debut of ‘Blue Jean Baby’, which he released in January. Along with this, fans can seemingly look forward to hearing a slew of Bryan's biggest hits, such as ’Something in the Orange’, ‘Open the Gate’, ‘Overtime’, ‘Burn, Burn, Burn‘, ‘Oklahoma Smokeshow’, ‘Condemned’ and, of course, ‘Revival’.
The glaring omission is the Kacey Musgraves-assisted ‘I Remember Everything’, his first and only song to top the Billboard Hot 100, but it's worth stressing that - ever the contrarian - Zach Bryan rarely plays both this much-loved track and ‘Something in the Orange’, despite these being his two most popular songs.
As a result, at the moment, it looks like we won't be treated to any new music during Zach Bryan's Stagecoach set. Don't fret, though, as we do think the country-folk trailblazer might have something equally as exciting up his sleeve - some special guests.
With Zach Bryan teaming up with Sierra Ferrell back in 2023 for ‘Holy Roller’, and with Ferrell performing earlier in the day, we suspect they might be plotting to join forces during Bryan's headline set. Lana Del Rey is also on Stagecoach's Friday bill, and Zach Bryan has expressed his admiration for the ‘Henry, come on’ crooner in the past, serenading followers with an acoustic cover of ‘Video Games’ back in 2023.
Should this come to fruition, this would be a seismic collaboration. There's no obvious song for Zach Bryan and Lana Del Rey to duet, so perhaps they'll perform ‘Video Games’, seeing as Bryan is clearly a fan of that brooding offering. In addition, Bryan's fast-emerging ‘Purple Gas’ collaborator, Noeline Hofmann is also performing on the same day as him, so we imagine they might link up on-stage, too.
We've also got to factor in the traditional ‘Revival’ finale, during which Bryan invites fellow artists and A-list figures onto the stage to help give the uptempo anthem a rowdy, raucous ambience. We've had a truly eclectic mix of ‘Revival’ guests over the past year or so, including Megan Moroney, Bruce Springsteen, Maggie Rogers, Sexyy Red, Shane Gillis, Tate McRae and Hailey Welch (‘The Hawk Tuah’ Girl’).
It's therefore hard to tell who might be coming out with Bryan for his Stagecoach ‘Revival’ set, especially given the fact that there will be a star-studded cast of attendees heading to Indio for the country extravaganza, alongside the artists.
One other curiosity will be ‘If She Wants a Cowboy’. The American Heartbreak stand-out features on Zach Bryan's previously shared Stagecoach Festival setlist, but yesterday (Wednesday, April 23rd), Bryan uploaded a clip of a ‘Stagecoach Version’ of the track. Instead of delivering the line, “If she wants a cowboy, I'll cowboy the best”, Bryan jokingly sings, “If she wants Stagecoach, I'll Stagecoach the best”.
This snippet is seemingly a studio recording, which has led some fans to speculate that Zach Bryan might release this reimagined take on ‘If She Wants a Cowboy’ ahead of his Stagecoach set. Stagecoach has a longstanding relationship with Amazon Music, and artists sometimes share exclusive tracks and covers via the streaming platform around the festival, so it's possible that Bryan might surprise drop ‘If She Wants a Cowboy (Stagecoach Version)’ before his show.
We'll have to wait and see what exactly Zach Bryan has in store for Stagecoach 2025. But even if there are no special guests (which we think would be highly unlikely) and no live debuts, Bryan will undoubtedly - as always - deliver a stellar, electrifying set.
