Angie K

SET LIST

'Red Dirt on Mars'

'Laredo'

'Death of Me'

"Of course, I had them pour me a nice shot of whiskey" Angie K proclaims, introducing her first Holler Nashville Session the only way she knows how. "Dickel is actually made here in Nashville, and I don't know where you are in the world watching this, but if you haven't tried George Dickel Whiskey, you haven't lived just yet".

Complex songwriter, born entertainer, whiskey connoisseur; who else do you need when you've got Angie K.

Since her appearance in Blake Shelton's team on The Voice US in 2016, Angie K has been on a rollercoaster ride through a fairytale. Taking her poetic and personal songwriting across the US with Jordan Davis, Tanya Tucker, Jake Owen and so many more, Angie even made the time to deliver two studio albums and a now beloved Disney duet.

Now, with new music on the horizon, it was certainly time for her to record a Holler Nashville Session. Presented by George Dickel, Angie gifts us with two new songs and a slow-burning gem from her back catalogue.

"I'm, gosh, 32 years old now, I've put out a couple of records" Angie begins, introducing her first song, the 2024 single 'Red Dirt On Mars'. "I've gotten to the place and I've made a community where I don't feel as scared to share a slower song".

"It's kind of vulnerable, it was when I was living in a little town called Gainsville, Georgia, and it was after one of my first relationships with a girl" Angie continues, "I was the reason that failed, but it still hurt, ok? I felt really alone and still attached to the earth - I don't know if that makes sense, but hopefully through this song, it will".

Besotted with the place she's from, but unable to get past the memories that paint the walls, Angie searches for answers in faraway places. It's a beautiful exploration of place, time and tangible feelings.

"This next song is actually on the side of my mom - I was born in El Salvador, and moved to Georgia when I was 11. My mom's side is from New Mexico, Colorado, Texas - some ramblers out there".

"I always heard these crazy stories about my great-grandparents" she explains, "I finally put them in a song, and it's called 'Laredo' - here's a little family history for you".

A heated, romantic waltz - 'Laredo' conjures images of love, struggle and euphoria under the Texas Moon. It exhibits Angie's powerful storytelling; the singer grinning as she leads us in the all encompassing narrative dance she's conducting.

"I'm going to play you guys a little bit of a drinking song" Angie announces before playing her final song. "It's a drinking song because it's sad, not because it tells you to drink".

Written with revered songwriter and producer Stephanie Smith, K explains the influence Smith had on her when it came to releasing the song, out on August 2nd, 2024.

"It's a very vulnerable song, and I almost didn't put in on the record, but I'm glad I did - just because of the stories i've heard of people relating to it".

Intensely personal and exposing, Angie somehow finds the words to convey the sort of love we all want to experience and express; one that is honest and true to ourselves. "Maybe this love really ain't love at all / it's just two people with their backs against last call" she sings, "it sure beats the hell out of being alone".

With the heartbreaking finality of such a line, Angie lays out everything, in the hopes of being able to help others willing to listen. It's brave, forthright and moving - as all country songs should be.
