Since Angel White suddenly appeared in Music City at the top of this year, his acoustic guitar and voice that could bring anyone with a heart of stone to tears has captured the imaginations of all who have heard him.
His debut EP, the individual and creative Ghost of the West: Volume I, arrived in May - a cinematic masterpiece that signalled to us that White was going to be someone special. Now, with his first Holler Live Session from Nashville, he cements just why we have such belief in the power of his music.
"This first's one called 'RED BLANKET', and it's about a blanket my Grandmother made me". White begins, introducing his opener. "It's just the idea that keepsakes keep people alive, no matter where they go". Brewing up a deserted western soundscape that drips with longing, White conjures a vivid and tangible narrative that weighs heavy with loss, but also grace and thanks.
'DOWN BY THE RIVER', Angel's latest single that was released in July, is next. A slower and less percussive performance of the song than it's studio recording, it allows White's soulful, moving voice to come to the forefront, whistling a confident and optimistic tune to help you take that next step forward, wherever it may lead you.
Closing with the wondrous '2733', it's both a heartbreaking collection of memories and a gentle warning to really think it through when getting matching tattoos with your love.
A powerful performance that could ring out across any room, White shows just why we've fallen in love with this evocative artist so quickly in 2024.
