John R. Miller trudges down the winding paths of his mind on his highly anticipated new album, Heat Comes Down.
A candid journey through anxiety, insomnia and existential dread - and their eventual antidotes – Miller weaves cosmic country with late-night blues and occasional threads of grunge to achieve a truly effortless set of songs. Throughout, he strikes a perfect lyrical balance between acute commentary and wry, self-deprecating humour, be it on the JJ Cale reminiscent ‘Crumbling Pie’ or chaotic frenzy of ‘Conspiracies, Cults & UFOs’.
The instrumentation is intricate yet spacious, with distant, wailing blues guitar licks and lush pedal steel aplenty. It’s an album you can listen to over and over again and each time discover something new to love.
