Morgan Wallen and Lil Durk's blossoming friendship has been as unexpected as it has been heartwarming. The genre-crossed buddies recently hit the studio to record ‘Stand By Me’, one of the undoubted highlights on Lil Durk's new album, Almost Healed.
Excitingly, in a new interview with American Songwriter, Lil Durk's producer, ryderoncrack, revealed that Wallen and Durk had actually recorded a second collaboration for the project.
The country-leaning track was ultimately switched out for ‘B12’, but fans of the duo will be hoping Lil Durk has plans to include the unreleased song on a deluxe version of Almost Healed.
Speaking to the LA Times, the Chicago rapper recently underlined his appreciation for Morgan Wallen, as well as light-heartedly poking fun at the country megastar, “We live in two totally different worlds. He’ll tell me, ‘Let’s go hunting, let’s go fishing.’ He’s opened my mind to a different view of life. I’m telling him about about clothes, all about the sauce. But he doesn’t care much about fashion”.
‘Stand By Me’, track 20 on Almost Healed, marks the second collaboration between Wallen and Durk, following their incandescent 2021 single, ‘Broadway Girls’, which has become a staple in Morgan Wallen's expansive repertoire of hits.
Interestingly, it was after Wallen's 2021 opus, Dangerous, blocked Durk's The Voice from becoming his first No. 1 that the rapper sought a feature from him, to help ensure his next solo album would hit the top spot. Lil Durk's 2022 record, 7220, received a welcome boost from the genre-blending popularity of ‘Broadway Girls’ and succeeded in reaching No. 1.
Morgan Wallen's 2023 record, One Thing At A Time, currently sits at the peak of the Billboard 200 for its twelfth frame, but Lil Durk is expected to usurp his Tennessee pal this week with Almost Healed.
Given the unique surge of electricity that sparks to life whenever these two trailblazing titans join forces, listeners are already calling for Lil Durk and Morgan Wallen's third unreleased collaboration to be made available sooner rather than later.
