Although we didn't get the traditional post-album EP after Zach Bryan's lauded 2024 project, The Great American Bar Scene, the Oklahoma singer-songwriter has confirmed he's hard at work on a full-length follow-up. The record is expected to arrive in 2025.
There is no confirmed release date as of yet, but Zach Bryan has been sharing some hints and clues about the forthcoming project. While the arrival of a studio album from Zach is always cause for celebration, in many ways, the best part of the rollout is when the ‘Revival’ crooner is sharing unfinished demos and testing out snippets of new material via his socials. It's a fascinating real-time insight into the creative process of one of the biggest names in country music, as he allows fans to be privy to the transformations his songs undergo before they're released.
We're currently in this stage of Zach Bryan's new album rollout, with the ‘Something in the Orange’ hitmaker teasing unreleased songs via Instagram at a surprising rate - even for him. The pace of snippets undoubtedly accelerated following Zach Bryan's high-profile split from BFF's podcast co-host, Brianna LaPaglia, in October 2024, with Zach stepping off his usual soapbox of X (formerly Twitter) and seemingly holing himself away from the media attention to focus on the new album.
The first post-break-up clip we got was of ‘Rockaway’, a melancholic track that finds Zach Bryan wistfully looking back at a happier time in a relationship, “Recall when we / Went to Rockaway Beach / Summer heat in eastern Queens / And a subway ride”.
Shortly after, we got acoustic clips of two more tracks, ‘All Good Things Past‘ - which was accompanied by a playful, artsy video featuring Zach's band-members - and ‘Motorbreath’. We're keeping our fingers crossed that both appear on the new album.
In November 7th, 2024, Zach Bryan surprised fans by releasing a brand new single, the nostalgic, repentant ‘This World's A Giant’, which he teased via X in January 2024. He followed this up by confirming plans to drop another new song the following day, the title of which is yet to be unveiled. It's unclear whether these two releases will be standalone tracks, or will feature on his forthcoming album.
Earlier in 2024, Zach Bryan shared portions of two other introspective unreleased offerings, seemingly titled ‘Raining in My Mind’ and ‘Love and Loss and Lightning Strikes’. These don't have official names as of yet, but we're hoping they'll make the cut for Zach's highly anticipated The Great American Bar Scene follow-up record. Of course, Zach Bryan has a wealth of unreleased songs in his arsenal from years gone by, and it's possible he'll revisit his catalogue and surprise listeners by making some older fan-favourite tracks available at long last.
During an October 2024 conversation with Bruce Springsteen for Rolling Stone, Zach Bryan shed some light on the unique approach he's been taking towards his new album, as well as - excitingly - revealing that he's already written “14 songs” for the project.
This was before he teased ‘Rockaway’, ‘All Good Things Past’ and ‘Motorbreath’, and it's unclear whether these were penned more recently, or whether they're part of the 14.
Elsewhere in his discussion with Springsteen, Zach Bryan explained that he's trying to be more deliberate when putting together this collection of songs, “I'm not sure how I want to record a lot of them, and I just don't know right now. But this is the first time in my life where I've given myself time not to know. I'm really thinking about it”.
Zach expanded, “Some [recordings] are on my phone, and some of them are at Electric Lady [Studio], some of them are full productions here, and some of them are at fields...I want to have the staying power to be like, ‘I'm gonna make this a studio album”.
Before deactivating his account - Zach Bryan took to X to share that he has “one more record” remaining after The Great American Bar Scene, and that it may be acoustic.
The ‘I Remember Everything’ chart-topper mused, “I have one record left after The Great American Bar Scene, if it's acoustic don't mind it”. Some have speculated that this means Zach Bryan only owes one more album as part of his deal with Warner Records, but this is unconfirmed, while others have taken this to mean Zach Bryan is readying his last album ever. The latter feels unlikely, although he has been implying that his 2024 Quittin’ Time run of shows will be his final tour.
We don't think this next full-length project will be Zach Bryan's last body of work, and with Zach booked for Stagecoach 2025 and two BST Hyde Park 2025 headlining dates, he's still going to be performing some shows next year too, even if it's not technically a full-blown tour. Either way, judging by the quality of the snippets he's been sharing of late, we can't wait to see what Zach has up his sleeve.
