‘Small Town Girls’ by Thomas Rhett & Tucker Wetmore - Lyrics & Meaning

After dropping a flurry of teasers, Thomas Rhett finally announced that his mystery collaborator for ‘Small Town Girls’ would be none other than country prodigy, Tucker Wetmore.

The duo team up for a feel-good, light-hearted ode to the denim-wearing, bible-verse-citing, Jeep-driving country women that make their hearts skip a beat. It marks the first collaboration between Rhett and Wetmore, and with the artists heading out on the road in 2025 on the Better in Boots Tour, we imagine we might be getting a live debut of the infectious ‘Small Town Girls’ some time very soon.

‘Small Town Girls’ arrived alongside ‘I'm That Guy’ and ‘Dance With You‘ as part of Thomas Rhett's expanded About a Woman (From a Small Town) project on Friday, May 9th 2025.

‘Small Town Girls’ feels like a throwback to the sun-soaked, Spring-Break-ready style that pervaded 2010's country, with Thomas Rhett and Tucker Wetmore's vocals combining seamlessly as they serenade the women that inspired the track.

The hazy, reverb-laden effects and the deliberate, undulating drum pattern create a laidback, summery ambience, and we have an inkling ‘Small Town Girls’ will pair perfectly with a late afternoon in June drive with the windows down and the volume cranked up. It continues TR's stellar streak after the original About a Woman.

Thomas Rhett opens by setting the scene and depicting some ‘Small Town Girls’ cruising along in a sun-bleached Jeep, blasting Shania Twain's ‘Whose Bed Have Your Boots Been Under?’ from the speakers. TR underlines that this phenomenon isn't restricted to the South - you'll find these ‘Small Town Girls’ from coast to coast.

For Tucker Wetmore's verse, the ‘Wine Into Whiskey’ hitmaker accentuates the summery atmosphere of ’Small Town Girls’, depicting them as drinking High Noon vodka seltzers at the beach. Wetmore then advises the listener to find their own ‘Small Town Girl’.

The duo consolidate the distinctly American feel of ‘Small Town Girls’ by name-dropping Chevrolet and Bruce Spingsteen's ‘Born in the USA’, before Rhett expresses his gratitude that God decided to give him a small-town girl that ultimately became his wife.

Ahead of the release, Thomas Rhett explained why he'd be adding to About a Woman with these extra tracks, “It’s always been a dream of mine to continuously put music out. When we were deciding what to include on About A Woman last year, I had about 30 songs we were picking between. We landed on the 14 that came out in August knowing we could keep releasing more of the others. These three are feel-good summer songs that the band and I have already started rehearsing for tour, and to sing 'Small Town Girls’ with Tucker every night is going to be a blast. I’m looking forward to putting out more throughout the summer!”
