Ella Langley & HARDY – ‘Never Met Anyone Like You’

Release Date: June 27, 2025

Songwriters: HARDY and Jordan Schmidt

Producer: Will Bundy

The Background:

When Ella Langley started teasing the seemingly lovestruck, rose-tinted ‘Never Met Anyone Like You’, fans noted how it served as a departure from the stormy, heartbroken odes such as ’paint the town blue’ and ‘girl you're taking home’. But of course, Langley had a twist up her sleeve - because ‘Never Met Anyone Like You’ is no love song.

We perhaps should've suspected there would be more to this than meets the eye, given the fact that HARDY is a co-writer and a guest vocalist. The ‘TRUCK BED’ singer-songwriter is known for his penchant for dark narratives and rock-tinged sonics.

Inevitably, the lyric, “Then you went and hooked up with my friend” has the internet abuzz, with fans speculating that this is referring to Riley Green's rumoured romance with Megan Moroney. Of course, this is merely conjecture at this point.

The Sound:

The majority of ‘Never Met Anyone Like You’ finds Ella Langley serenading her lover across a delicate, peaceful acoustic guitar riff. It mirrors the blissful ambience that permeates the first portion of the story, with Langley toasting her partner's qualities.

Then, for the bridge, the instrumental starts to get more jagged and angsty, with a sea of electric guitars suddenly entering the fray and Langley drops the shocking plot twist. HARDY's screamo-leaning vocals add an extra jolt of venom to the crescendo of ‘Never Met Anyone Like You’, giving this song a Jekyll and Hyde feel.

The Meaning:

“All of my friends can't quit talking about you
They've never been like this before
The way that you turn every head that's around you
The second you walk through the door
Safe to say that you made me insane, even crazy
Got my whole world upside down
And I know that you know that I know a lot of folks
But honey, there just ain't no doubt”

For the opening verse, Ella Langley makes the listener think she's describing the ideal partner, with the Alabama native celebrating the fact that all her friends can't help but gush about him, before admiring how he always captures everyone's attention.

“I've never met anyone like you
Darling, you're one in a million
God couldn't do it again if He tried to
I've never met anyone, never met anyone like you
Like you”

She keeps in this vein for the chorus, describing her partner as being “one in a million”. At first, it seems Ella Langley means this in a positive way, because nobody can compare.

But then, during the last instalment of this hook, it becomes clear that, in actuality, the ‘you look like you love me’ hitmaker intends the titular lyric as an insult. Langley is outlining how she's never met anyone that has treated her as badly as he has.

“It's the side that you pick on the sidewalk, walking
The songs that you pick at the bar
It's all in the way that you talk to your mama
Yeah, you got some kind of heart”

While she continues to lull listeners into a false sense of security, Langley sings warmly about the little things that set him apart, such as his love for his mother and his taste in music.

“'Cause you said it was us till the end (Till the end)
Then you went and hooked up with my friend (With my friend)
And you blamed it on me
Left me crying in pieces
Damn, what a piece of—
Whoa”

Here, we finally discover what ‘Never Met Anyone Like You’ is really about, with Ella Langley revealing that this supposedly perfect partner then went and cheated with her friend. To make matters worse, he had the audacity to try and blame her for his actions.

We get a witty transition here from “crying in pieces” to Ella Langley donning him a “piece of...”. This is the verse that has fans wondering if ‘Never Met Anyone Like You’ is about the alleged love triangle between Langley, Megan Moroney and Riley Green.

Fans have been convinced that Ella Langley and Riley Green have been romantically involved ever since they teamed up for their viral hit, ‘you look like you love me’, but in recent months, the latter has been spotted with one of Langley's friends, Megan Moroney. More recently, the plot has thickened even further, with Moroney seemingly suggesting that Green “f***ed up” during a recent concert. As we underlined earlier, though, these are all just rumours at the moment, and we'll most likely never know if ‘Never Met Anyone Like You’ is actually about Green.
