Morgan Wallen's dad, Tommy, has returned with another engaging episode of 'Tommy's Sunday Seven.' The father of the country superstar releases a 7-minute episode every Sunday, where he dives into biblical scripture with his listeners on 'Morgan Wallen Radio' via SiriusXM.
This week, Tommy opens by announcing what he finds is flawed in many Christians understanding of the Bible - and how to combat these flaws. Tommy gives solutions to this as well as different study tools his listeners can utilize when diving into independent biblical study.
Often times, Tommy returns to his personal philosophy as a devout Christian preacher: "Never base your beliefs on what I say, or what someone else says." Tommy has expressed this belief time again in various episodes, to home in on the importance of understanding the full message of the Bible, in order to form opinions and beliefs about it.
"The best commentary on the Bible, is the Bible," Tommy says, as he dives into the importance of using context when studying scripture. "When you come across a verse in the Bible that gives you something to meditate on, read the whole Bible - include what's before it and after it, it has to be taken into the context it is written in."
The Tennessee preacher then acknowledges the habit he sees followers of Jesus returning to too often; using singular verses to base the entire doctrine and message of Christian belief.
He places the blame on this practice for the reason why many people live in a state of disagreement and confusion with one another. As he highlights these mental and emotional states as being in contradiction to God's will for humankind, he arrives at his first spoken verse of the episode.
"God is not the author of confusion, he is the author of peace," Tommy states as he references 1 Corinthians 14:33, For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints.
After this brief overview of the importance of understanding the Bible in its full context, Tommy continues with his affirmed goal of sharing study tools with his listeners.
He recommends "Strong's Exhaustive Concordance" of the Bible, a studying tool that helps readers with efficient study, as it provides an alphabetical index for every word in the KJV Bible, linking each English word to its proper original language, such as Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. Following this Biblical tool, Tommy also recommends 'Logos,' a software tool that provides a library of Christian books and study tools for the Bible.
As Tommy recommends these tools, he gives his listeners the healthy reminder to not let any study resource take the place of the word of God.
Tommy wraps up episode 16 with a passage from the book of John. Quoting John 16:5-15, he describes the departure of Christ after his resurrection, and the helper that Jesus sent in his place on earth, better known as the Holy Spirit. According to popular Christian belief, the Holy Spirit is something of a guide for followers of Jesus, a spirit that can intercede and help them during their time on earth, before being reunited with God and Jesus in heaven.
The Holy Spirit enables followers of Christ to live out their Christian lives to the best of their ability, with help in all areas of their spirituality, and more to the point Tommy was making, with help in their scripture reading practices.
