Maddox Batson - 'I Don't Like You Anymore'

Release Date: February 6, 2025

Songwriters: Maddox Batson, Ashley Gorley, Hunter Phelps and David Garcia

The Background:

One of 2024's most buzzed about newcomers, Maddox Batson, will undoubtedly be taking that same distinction into the New Year.

With dozens of show dates, a Stagecoach debut and plenty more hits on the horizon, the 15-year-old star-on-the-rise is ready to capture fans far and wide during what is set to be an unforgettable 2025 for the young artist.

Today, he's kicking it all off with 'I Don't Like You Anymore', a darling single about what it is like to be young and in like ... like "like like."

The Sound:

'I Don't Like You Anymore' is straightforward country pop, a by-the-book melding of shimmering strings, crisp rhythms and sweeping atmospherics. Like many of the artist's latest hits, the song features glossy production and a concise arrangement. Very few elements of the track are innovative or imaginative, but the song possesses all the bits that make radio hits.

The Meaning:

"I’ve been waitin
For the right time to say
Something’s changin
Between us these days
Don’t wanna kick it with you
Just every now and then
Cause all I do is miss you
Until I see you again"

'I Don't Like You Anymore' follows the evolution of young romance as it transforms from mere infatuation to something much more.

While the tune plays like a breakup song in the beginning, Batson's intentions soon become clear. He's sings about being ready to take the leap from "like" to "love," and he's simply waiting for the right time to make his affections known to his significant other.

He lays it all out in the chorus, singing: "I don’t like you anymore / I ain’t sayin that we’re done / Hate to break it to you baby / I think you could be the one..."

"Been day dreaming
Bout you all the time
I Gotta see ya
More than just Friday nights
So Take my blue jean jacket
All my time you can have it
U can post it you can snap it
Let the whole town know"

He vocalizes how his feelings have grown, and what was once a fledgling romance has blossomed into something with full-fledged feelings and the potential for a future.

He sings about how he wants more than just time together on Friday nights. He wants the real deal relationship, the borrowed jacket, the Instagram posts, the acknowledgement from their peers and all.

"I don’t like you anymore
I ain’t sayin that we’re done
Hate to break it to you baby
I think you could be the one
Cause I’m feelin somethin stronger than before
See my future in your eyes
Baby I don’t think I like you anymore"
