Clemson Memorial Stadium, famously known as ‘Death Valley’, will host The King, George Strait, on Saturday May 2nd for one night only as part of their ‘Death Valley Nights’ concert series. The show is expected to be a near complete sell out, with over 90,000 fans in attendance and will be the first time the ‘Death Valley’ stadium has held a concert since 1999. In fact, Strait was the last musician to play the stadium, as he headlined the country music festival back in 1999.

Strait’s setlist for this tour-that’s-not-a-tour is pretty firm by now and his last few shows have ran almost identical. His last concert was supported by Miranda Lambert and she was welcomed back on stage to perform ‘She’ll Leave You With A Smile’ and ‘I Just Want To Dance With You’, and while the latter has featured in his setlist prior, the former was a new addition. With another true icon and fellow Texas cowboy, Cody Johnson, supporting, surely he’s bound to bring him out for his classics like ‘Check Yes Or No’, ‘Amarillo By Morning’ and ‘Give It Away’ are pretty certain to be in the setlist, with a belter of an encore containing the truly iconic numbers such as ‘All My Ex’s Live In Texas’ and ‘The Cowboy Rides Away’.

Early merch will be available on Friday 1st May from 12-7pm in Lot 5 on the north side of Perimeter Road, across from Memorial Stadium. You do not need a concert ticket to access this official merchandise trailer. This lot will open again at 12pm on concert day, Saturday 2nd May. Gates open at 4.30pm, from which time ticket-holders will be able to access the internal merch stands. Diamond, Emerald and Sapphire VIP package holders will have access to a ‘crowd-free VIP merchandise shopping opportunity’ as part of their pre-show hospitality.

Parking lots for Clemson Memorial Stadium will open at 10am on the day of the concert, and spaces can be purchased online via the Stadium’s website. These will be in lots 1,2,5,6,8,RV lot. There are alternative free spaces around the stadium but concert goers are advised to arrive early to these as they will run on a first come, first served basis and will fill up quickly.

Traffic is expected to be heavy on the night, particularly in the hours before gates open and immediately after Strait closes the show. It is advised that attendees arrive early and reserve parking beforehand.

Note: There is a Clemson v. Boston College baseball game scheduled for 1pm on the day of the concert at Doug Kingsmore Stadium which is just across from Memorial Stadium. The parking for this will open at 10am, overlapping with parking lots opening at 12pm for George Strait. Traffic on Perimeter Road, particularly near Lot 5, is expected to be extremely congested. It is also worth noting that one of the main ride-share drop offs for the concert is the Doug Kingsmore Stadium, so departure from the baseball game will overlap with arrival to the concert which will make the area very busy.

Clemson Memorial Stadium operates a clear bag policy and those bags must be under 12” x 6” x 12”. Clutch bags are permitted, but they must be smaller than 4.5” x 6.5”. Medically necessary items are exempt but will still require screening. Please see the stadium’s website for more information.

George Strait will be picking up where he left off back in 1999 as he takes the stage for his one night only show in Clemson, South Carolina. The Stadium has not seen a concert since Strait left the stage 27 years ago, and what a full circle to bring The King back for the first of the Death Valley Nights. All his ex’s might live in Texas, but George Strait’s legacy lives in Clemson.
