One of our favourite songs from one of our favourite albums of the year finally gets a super fun video befitting it. Fresh from performing as part of the 2023 CMA Awards Jimmy Buffett tribute with Zac Brown Band, Kenny Chesney, Alan Jackson and Mac McAnally, Caroline Jones is back on our screens this week with a brand new video for her song ‘Normal Person.’

It was a particularly personal moment for the singer. Jones originally got her start touring local schools across New England before she was recognized by the late Jimmy Buffett at a Hurricane Disaster Relief benefit and taken under his wing as a mentee.

The two collaborated on a charity release, which led to Buffett recruiting Jones to open on his tour, as well as signing her to his label for a distribution deal, writing ‘Gulf Coast Girl’ for her and introducing her to Kenny Chesney, with whom she later toured with.

She’ll be back on the road joining Kenny Chesney with Zac Brown Band for his Sun Goes Down 2024 Tour kicking off in April next year and hitting 18 stadiums with other guests, Megan Moroney and Uncle Kracker.

There’s always a moment in any Caroline Jones set when she gets a little sass in her step and slaps it down on the table. Sitting neatly alongside tongue-in-cheek eye-rollers like ‘Tough Guys’ and ‘Come In (But Don’t Make Yourself Comfortable)’, ‘Normal Person is the kind of song that Loretta Lynn and Dolly Parton built their country empires on. Unapologetically forthright, but also outrageously fun and assertive.

“It’s just a funny song that I wrote to my husband about how sometimes I feel guilty for being kind of difficult or I don’t know… a colourful character,” Caroline Jones explains about the song. “But then I remember that he wanted to marry me!”

“It’s just a really fun way of saying that,” she laughs. “I think every couple can relate, especially married couples, and it’s just a really fun song. It always makes people chuckle”.

She says she loves playing the song at festivals and seeing people laugh as the lyrics begin to dawn on them. The video for ‘Normal Person’ was filmed while she was out on tour playing Stockdale Watermelon Festival and its annual rodeo this past summer.

“None of the video was pre-produced or pre-staged”, Caroline Jones told us. “My interactions with the cowboy re-enactors, saddle makers, and carnival kids is totally spontaneous, in the moment fun. This video represents authentic Americana to me. Hopefully the viewer can see how much fun I was having, and that enhances the sassy nature of the ‘Normal Person’ lyrics and country throwback sound”.

‘Normal Person’ is taken fromJones recently released third, full-length studio album, Homesite, which features star-studded guest appearances from Zac Brown Band, Vince Gill and Alyssa Bonagura.

The video for ‘Normal Person’ is premiering exclusively at Holler below.

‘Normal Person’ follows Caroline Jones’ current single ‘Million Little Bandaids’, which features Zac Brown Band as well as being produced by Zac Brown. The song marks her first official collaboration with the group since joining full-time in 2022.

Caroline Jones just wrapped her fifth consecutive amphitheater and stadium tour with Zac Brown Band. Caroline’s dedication to her craft has led to previous collaborations and tours alongside the biggest names in the industry, including the late Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, the Eagles, OneRepublic, Carrie Underwood, Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, Trisha Yearwood, Jake Owen, Vince Gill and more.

Homesite is out now on True To The Song.
