Everybody has their own marker-post for the exact point at which Christmas truly begins, and we're finally allowed to dust off our ‘All I Want For Christmas is George Strait’ Christmas jumper without drawing eye-rolls from passing onlookers.
For some, it's the beginning of December. For others, Christmas starts as soon as Thanksgiving has ended.
But for many country music fans, we don't acknowledge that ‘tis the season until we've sat down with a cup of hot chocolate (perhaps with a generous tipple), and watched CMA Country Christmas.
This year's instalment was hosted by 2022 CMA Musical Event of the Year winner, Carly Pearce. In addition to this, Pearce produced spectacular renditions of ‘Here Comes Santa Claus’ and ‘Man With The Bag’.
Joining Pearce in the festive, homely TV special was Dan + Shay (‘Officially Christmas’ and ‘Holiday Party’), Scotty McCreery (‘Holly Jolly Christmas’), Maren Morris (‘Merry Christmas Baby’), Steven Curtis Chapman (‘Precious Promise’) and more.
2022 CMA Group of the Year winners, Old Dominion, offered their take on ‘What Christmas Means To Me’, while Molly Tuttle teamed up with Pearce for an uplifting bluegrass medley of classic Christmas tracks.
This included special renditions of ‘It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas’, ‘Let It Snow’, ‘God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen’, ‘Winter Wonderland’ and ‘Christmas Time's A-Comin’’.
If all that wasn't enough to get viewers' pipers piping and their lords-a-leaping, to top it all off, The War And Treaty brought a booster dose of festive cheer with their spin on ‘O Holy Night’.
CMA Country Christmas was founded in 2010, and has since featured a spectacular, tinsel-covered array of country stars. Filmed in Nashville, the 2022 show aired on Thursday December 8th on ABC, and will get an encore presentation on Tuesday December 13th at 9/8c.
