Bailey Zimmerman consolidated his status as country music's next-big-thing with the release of his 2023 debut album, Religiously, which so far boasts three No. 1 singles.
As a result, expectations are sky-high for the Illinois prodigy's follow-up project, with fans hoping Bailey Zimmerman has another full-length album lined up for the latter half of 2024.
Although there's no release date or tracklist just yet, Bailey has released a couple of singles in 2024, including ‘Holy Smokes’, which portrays young love through an array of cleverly interwoven spiritual imagery (“Her hangin' onto me like a cross on a rearview does / Her eyes were blue, the words were red / On that half pack of cigarettes”).
Bailey Zimmerman quickly followed this up with the rowdy middle-finger to his detractors, ‘New to Country’, in June. Bailey shared a clip of another new track, the introspective ‘Holding On’, in late September, with the rollout for his album clearly accelerating.
Sonically, both ‘Holy Smokes’ and ‘Holding On’ carry a similar atmospheric ambience to Religiously stand-outs such as the title-track, ‘Rock and A Hard Place’ and ‘Get to Gettin’ Gone’.
Lyrically, the religious vein that runs through ‘Holy Smokes’ aligns with the core theme of the album, so perhaps this is set to be tagged onto a deluxe version of his 2023 project. Given how much time has now passed since Religiously, however, we think that this era has concluded, and that Bailey is already writing his next musical chapter.
As a result, fans will be hoping that, rather than just two or three songs dropping as part of a deluxe project, the bearded crooner is instead readying a brand new album. If this is the case, we imagine he'll opt for the same rollout plan that served him so well with Religiously, with a shorter EP arriving ahead of the full album, so that Bailey and his team can test out which tracks should make the cut for the record.
