The 2021 Grammy Awards have been postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The long-running awards ceremony will no longer take place on the originally scheduled date of January 31, with it now to be held on March 14.

Yesterday evening (January 5) The Recording Academy issued a joint statement with network host CBS, stating that the decision came “after thoughtful conversations with health experts”, following rising concerns around the Coronavirus pandemic, particularly in the host city of Los Angeles.

"The deteriorating COVID situation in Los Angeles, with hospital services being overwhelmed, ICUs having reached capacity, and new guidance from state and local governments have all led us to conclude that postponing our show was the right thing to do," the statement continued;

"Nothing is more important than the health and safety of those in our music community and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly on producing the show."

Earlier yesterday, multiple sources confirmed to Rolling Stone that concerns about the spread of the Coronavirus caused executives to pull the plug on the plans for the ceremony and reschedule.

The 2021 Grammy Awards were originally set to take place January 31, with nominees announced in late November.

The awards were set for a restricted show this year, not allowing attendees to the ceremony and only welcoming presenters and performers on-site during the show.

TV host Trevor Noah was set to host this year's award ceremony, with Ingrid Andress, Sturgill Simpson, Mickey Guyton all nominated.
