Cody Johnson has won his first ever Grammy for ‘‘Til You Can't’, having fought off the likes of Maren Morris, Luke Combs and Taylor Swift for the coveted accolade.

Johnson's track was considered a dark horse for the award, but was confirmed as the Best Country Song winner at the Grammy Premiere event ahead of the main ceremony.

One of the co-writers of ‘‘Til You Can't’, Ben Stennis, accepted the prize in place of Johnson, who is currently gearing up for his hotly anticipated 2023 tour, which kicks off on later this month. Stennis penned the motivational anthem alongside Matt Rogers.

Also nominated in the Best Country Song category was Maren Morris’ ‘Circles Around This Town’, Miranda Lambert's ‘If I Was A Cowboy’, Willie Nelson's ‘I'll Love You Til the Day I Die’ and Taylor Swift's ‘I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor's Version)’.

Fans of the man they lovingly call ‘CoJo’ praised the Recording Academy for selecting ‘‘Til You Can't’ as the 2023 Best Country Song winner, with many celebrating it as a victory for traditional country music. Johnson was infamously rejected from a number of labels when he first came to Nashville and dismissed as an old-fashioned ‘hat act’.

The Grammy success of ‘‘Til You Can't’, a high-octane ode to a life lived in the moment, follows on from the song's triumph at the 2022 CMAs. The track earned Johnson the Single of the Year award, along with the prize for Music Video of the Year.
