Charley Crockett has delivered a powerful rendition of Woody Guthrie's ‘Dead or Alive’.

Standing at the foot of the stairs in what appears to be the backstage area of a concert venue, Crockett croons defiantly about refusing the call to come back home, (“Yes, I'm sorry but I can't come, sheriff / Dead or alive, no thanks / New sheriff, I'm a poor boy / Dead or alive, it's a hard road; it's a hard road, dead or alive”).

Crockett showcases his distinctive, honeyed drawl as he croons his way through the classic cowboy ballad, accompanied by nothing more than the gentle plucking of his trusty acoustic guitar.

The Texas native has become known for his traditional-leaning sound, and his new Woody Guthrie cover epitomises the retro, Wild West-inspired aesthetic that Crockett favours.

The Texas prodigy is currently preparing to head Down Under for the first time in his career, for a series of shows across Australia in March.

Charley Crockett will then be returning to the States for a slew of dates supporting the likes of Tyler Childers and Chris Stapleton.

Crockett has also been booked for an array of festivals, including Railbird, Under The Big Sky and the UK's End of the Road.

Fans will be wondering whether they'll get to hear any more covers during Crockett's live performances this year.

Some suspect the prolific songsmith may even include one or two - such as Guthrie's ‘Dead or Alive’ - on the follow-up to his widely acclaimed 2022 album, The Man From Waco.
